Where there is smoke there is fire. It is safe to say none of us has any idea what this team will look like in September.

We could end up an anywhere from Ramsey to Rothlisberger at starting QB or from Portis to Dillion and RB. Who the hell knows. But this is gonna be a fun ride

They getting ready to talk about the latest on the Portis deal on SportsNite here right after the Duke/FSU game

Will try to give an update, althought it will probally just be a rehash of what has been said already

They say that Champ hasn't signed with the Broncos but that he probally will tommorow. No word about any of this Portis to NE talk or about trading Ramsey

About Patrick Ramsey, Joe Thiesmann was on saying that back in 1981 when Gibbs took over as Redskins coach that there was a deal almost made to trade Joey T to the Lions and that he also wasn't a 'Joe Gibbs guy" but that he stuck it out and that Ramsey needs to do the same thing and sit behind Brunell and learn till it is his time to start.

This is WUSA, right?

The same WUSA that floated the story that Gibbs or someone amongst the 'Skins brass told Ramsey that Brunell was anointed as starter, correct? The same WUSA that had zip to say after Gibbs reaffirmed the fact that there was an open competition, huh?

Good Lord.

Now that I've hammered on WUSA, God help me if they get a story right.

Portis is a franchise running back. Don't get me wrong, he is damn good and Gibbs would do wonders with him. But, we have a guy by the name of Ladell Betts. Betts has size and speed and can catch out of the back field. I know everyone remembers:

Ernest Byner, Ricky Ervins, and Gerald Riggs

None of those guys were premier backs. Gibbs doesn't have to have a franchise back. We need to spend our top dollors on other needs like kearse or winstrom or winfield or springs. Then if Ramsey somehow gets traded to the steelers, we can draft stephen jackson or kevin jones.

While I really like Patrick Ramsey, I think trading him to get a young Quarterback to grow under Brunell and Gibbs is a great idea. We would also have the rookie that much longer under contract, since we would lose Ramsey in 2 years. Plus, I was not too impressed between Ramsey and Sexton and the tantrum they threw. That just shows he doesn't care about the team, rather his stats so in 2 years he can get a huge deal. A man of class wouldn't have said anything, except to have tried his hardest to be the starting Quarterback, and if he didn't get it, then not say anything since it's best for the team.

Football is a team sport and just one individual cannot win a game alone. Payton Manning and the Colts for instance. Everybody is singing the praises of Payton Manning, but it's the team that worked in unison with Manning to do such a great job. Ok, I just went off on a tangent, but I hope it wasn't too far off.

So in actuality, what we would be doing here is trading Champ for the #21 pick in the draft, and trading our second rounder (#42 pick) for the #32 pick.

Translation: I don't think so. Especially considering the fact that early on the front office was believed to have been seeking a 1st and 2nd rounder, as well as a player for Champ's services.

As for Ramsey to the Chargers or Steelers:

Joe can say it until he's blue in the face, but I guess people just don't understand. All this Ramsey talk is getting real old, real quick. It's a non issue.

First, how can you say Ramsey is NOT a class act right now? If he himself starts whining in training camp for losing out of a starting job, then it's a valid argument. He hasn't done anything detrimental to the team thus far, and also we haven't heard jack from Sexton since last weekend before his meeting with Gibbs... and I pray it stays that way.

Second, you say a rookie QB would be signed longer. Yeah but an early pick QB would also command a much higher salary. Ramsey's contract is very favorable to retain. Sexton screwed up in the making of that contract and will have hurted his client financially if Ramsey does not start this year.

No, I think he is the real deal, and in time be a pro bowl QB under Gibbs. He has the arm, the brains, and the toughness to be a great QB.

All this Ramsey trade talk is irritating as it is BS.

Yeah, he might not be an established starter. But can anyone spot a trend? You know, that crooked line going up really fast in that chart you're looking at?

To be sure, Ramsey has some things he needs to work on. But all of them (e.g., holding on to the ball too long) are coachable.

In short, let's get off these stories about him getting traded. At most, people from other teams see the the same rising star Gibbs sees and want to send him to their own finishing school. That doesn't mean we're interested and, to say the least, that a trade is imminent.

BTW, as for Ladell Betts, I wouldn't say that he has a great future under Gibbs. Going from first on the depth chart last year to being described as good third down back doesn't bode too well for you as of right now. Betts better impress if he wants to stick around.

I don't think a broken foot improves your 40.

Brunell can avoid defenders I guess... for how many more years?
