roachman
Can anyone confirm if this is actually being talked about in DC? I saw the New England trade talk about the two #1's for Portis but never heard Ty Law in the mix. WUSA Channel 9 in DC and ESPN Radio have speculated that the Redskins, upon commencement of the Bailey/Portis trade, will ship Portis to New England for disgruntled CB Ty Law, and both of New England's first round picks (21st and 32nd). The move would sure up the CB spot vacated by Bailey while providing Redskins two additional first round selections, essentially equaling a Bailey and a 2nd round pick for Law and two 1st round picks. Other rumors have circulated about the possibilities of a Patrick Ramsey trade, with most likely suitors being San Diego or Pittsburgh.

REDALERT
HAIL NO! Ty Law wants more than what Bailey wanted. Plus, Ty's 30 years old. With the contract he wants at the age of 30, I say it again. HAIL NO!

Mr. S
thatd be a decent trade, granted Law isnt costing a lot.

MidPennSkin
According to Miguel's Patriots Salary Tables, Ty Law is under contract through the 2005 season with the following salaries: 2004 - $5.65 million base salary, with a $1 million reporting bonus and $100,000 workout bonus 2005 - $8.75 million salary with a $1 million reporting bonus and a $100,000 workout bonus For less money we could have franchised Champ and kept our 2nd round pick. For this to work, we would have to sign Law to a much more cap-friendly deal, which we could try to do if NE cut him. They will get a dead-cap hit of $5.4 mil if they trade or cut him, as a result of Law's unamortized SB allocations for 2004 & 2005. It looks like Law is no bargain on his existing contract, and he has said he wants MORE than Champ got on a new contract, so forget negotiating a cap-friendly deal with him. No way will we do this! Ty Law is signed for the next 2 years...The Skins would just give him a Coles type contract(7 at 35mil..13mill bonus)Then he wouldnt count for maybe 3 million this year. earl
hell yes. we replace bailey with a great cb, and we end up with 3 #1's.
bnacpa
The key to this is signing Ty Law to a cap friendly deal for the next several years. If we can do that and have 3 #1 picks, we could get Taylor, a promising RB, and a decent TE. Address the DL during FA.
skinsmetsfan
ty law was by far the most dominating player this postseason. Just look at the job he did on Marvin Harrison. and in the super bowl that wasn't him getting burned it was poole and their rookie
bnacpa
I have no problems with Law as long as he is reasonably priced. He is 30 years old and not getting younger. If he only has 2 - 3 years left in the tank, I don't want to give him lots of money. Let's remember our mistakes from 2000 and try to be smarter about our approach. If we wouldn't sign champ to the ultimate fat cash paycheck, then don't spend it on a player whose shelf life is less.
Yomar
Portis is too special and too young...hold on to him and give him the contract he deserves, he is going to be worth it
KevinMac
Pony up for Ty Law and THREE #1 draft picks and you can forget about fixing anything in FA. Those four wouldn't come cheap. Bogus rumor.
bnacpa
the later round picks would not be too expense, look at Ramsey's contract .... The 5th pick would cost a boat-load
spanishomelette
There were rumors earlier that the skins wanted to have another top level 1st round pick. Perhaps they use this booty and/or other players to acquire a 2nd 1st round pick between #6 and #10 edit: I think that would be crazy mind you...but maybe they really want Taylor and Winslow that bad. skinsplayboy
I Look at this rumor like this. If this was the case the broncos would go do that any day of the week. This would be a much better deal for the Broncos to do then the skins. That right there would give them a shut down corner they so desire and then have three #1's to possibly trade up get there Rb then fill another position. This rumor is so false if it was true im sure that the Broncos would have heard from NE and bounced on this so fast. Portis will be a skin next year......... Tmac1577
Ty law is the best cover corner in the game if this is true 2 #1's and law for portis do it snyder can backload his contract to make it cap friendly that would be a hard deal to pass up!!! we could get greg jones with one of those pics and ben troupe or ben watson with the other then we could draft sean taylor 5th damm that would be a awesome deal!!! jake56
I think Law has the same agents as LaVar so I can't imagine he'd work out a "cap-friendly" contract so I don't see how we could afford him

JeffSchmeff
This "rumor" is 100% made up. I find it funny that people are still creating threads about it, but not one person has posted a link. Hell, there isn't even a link from profootballtalk, which we know is 99.999% bs anyway. Wake me up when the Post or Times has something on it... BlitzFiftySix
IMO the best thing the Redskins can do is 1) Keep Portis as their RB 2) Trade the #5 pick and move down to the middle of the first and acquire a 3rd round pick as part of the deal. 3) "IF and only IF" Ramsey demands it..... trade him to a suitor for their 2nd round pick and a 5th. By doing this you can accomplish filling the holes that are needed through the draft. DT, CB and weakside LB if not addressed through free agency.
