KENDALL, Fla. - Clinton Portis has no problems taking his two 1,500-yard rushing seasons to the East Coast.

The Denver Broncos running back indicated Friday he would welcome a trade to the Washington Redskins.

Portis said he hasn't spoken with the Redskins but believes they would be willing to give him the new contract he wants.

"I'm not concerned about it," Portis said while attending a charity event in South Florida. "I don't think the Redskins are going to bring me in just to keep me in the same situation."

Portis also likes Redskins owner Daniel Snyder's willingness to spend money in an effort to win, including the team's recent acquisition of quarterback Mark Brunell.

"Mr. Snyder's trying to get his organization to the Super Bowl," Portis said.

While he remains willing to return to Denver with a new contract, Portis doesn't believe the Broncos want him long-term.

"I'm not confident with nothing," he said. "I don't know what's going on. If Denver was going to sign me, we wouldn't be in this situation. Obviously, Denver feels they can't give me a new deal."

Portis also reiterated he never used the word holdout when asked about his future with the Broncos and said there were no hard feelings.

"I never saw myself holding out," Portis said. "I don't look at the situation as I was betrayed. It's a business move."

After rushing for 1,508 yards as a rookie and 1,591 this past season, Portis thinks his success will transfer to a new location.

"This is my third year in the league," he said. "It's not a big deal relocating and learning a new system."
