KevinthePRF
Why is Denver wanting, or willing to part ways with Portis? Why does he not fit into their organization plans at 22 yrs of age?

NavyDave
Because they know their running backs are only as good as their blocking scheme and they can always grab a second or third round running back.
Dirk Diggler
Shanahan obviously feels like he can find another back who can give the team a viable running option. The man's 4 for his last 4 with Portis, Terrell Davis, Mike Anderson, and Olandis Gary so it's hard to doubt him. He's also probably a little tired of losing games 27-24. novascotiadiesel
oh exactly!!!!! this is a huge mistake. here are my predictions, bailey lights up the league next year on whatever team he is on and portis is exposed as a talentless injury prone flop the broncos team offense is the reason both he and davis were stars, not any of their own talent, why can't we deal for someone who makes an offense look good not the other way around? Anyone who thinks Portis is talentless should go back to watching soccer or women's volleyball. The guy is a special talent which was easy to see while he was at Miami. The only knock was his size but Emmitt and Dorsett were about the same size. Blocking schemes in general only get you through the line of scrimmage. After that its the RB who makes a difference. Portis is a game changing RB which the Skins havent had since, well, maybe never.
matty dread
for the money that champs wants I'd rather spend it on a RB anyday

You want to get over something get ovger the Redskins don't draft well in the 2nd round so we can just give it away argument  you have yet to give even one logical reason why the Skins should give up Champ and the #38 pick. Bubba what you would prefer: Keep champ and our 1st and second pick and don't have much cap room because of champ's number or Get Portis sign to an 8 year cap friendly deal which gives us more room then we would have with Champ on the team Trade the #5 for either 2 1sts or a 1st, 2nd, and maybe a third? we could possibly pick up 2 or 3 extra FA's if we make this deal
NavyDave
Why would he sign a cap friendly contract when he sees that he is worth a champ bailey and the 38th pick in the draft? Why shouldnt he deserve a 14 million dollar SB?

Two call Denver's bluff, trust me they need Bailey more than Portis, The Skins can work a better deal with them than Giving up Bailey and the #38 and again the Cap is not so bad where keeping Champ franchised is going to kill us. The Skins have many other moves to make that will free up plenty of $$$$. I believe this deal will go through, and I don't think we will give up the #2, if we were going to do that... we would have already agreed to that one sided deal. Gibbs said they have different scenarios on the table with Denver. Gibbs knows we have plenty of time, and plenty of options, we don't have to make a bad trade, we can be patient and get the best possible deal. Whether it be with Denver or some other team. Brueck
I'm with Jbooma. Portis is a game changing back that has proven just how great he is, plus he's only 22. I don't feel to great about giving up our 2nd round pick as well, but with Brunell plus Portis we instantly have a solid offense. Portis has it all, speed, power, smarts - he is a complete back. Guest SkinsHokie Fan
Going to Va Tech has given me the special oppurtunity to see some special guys live like Micheal Vick, Dwight Freeney, Clinton Portis, Kevin Jones, etc. And I will say Clinton Portis really impressed me in the 2001 game at Tech. The guy refused to go down, was fast and had a terrific game against a very good defense. He even had a terrific game in 1999 (139 yards) but his fumbles were costly. Clearly he had learned from the 1999 game in 2001. I think if we bring him in here that would be awesome. However I am still skeptical on this trade. I think the team needs picks and needs them badly. Trading Champ for Portis just isn't gonna cut it. Giving up our 2nd is a big no no. I need something back from Denver. Someone, a pick, something to make this happen
