BayouBrave86
When first learning about the potential trade for Mark Brunell I thought instantly that the Skins would indeed aquire him in due time. As for the Portis deal, I want to be assured that it will happen, but I am not too sure it is going to happen. What is the opinion of most you guys? Chances of this deal happening? Personally I think there is a 50-50 chance. Man, just imagine Madden 05.:rotflmao: Seriously though, this would be a great deal for the Skins...in my opinion.:paranoid:

aREDSKIN
The key IMO is the "reported" 2nd round pick being asked for by the Broncos. I think it gets done with something other than just the second round pick being given up by us.

Drex
Even if we give up the #2 pick, I still see us trading down from #5 to recoup draft choices.
citigent
i think it will happen, synder always seems to get what he sets out for , i think the deal will change maybe ending up as neat years 2 round pick .
NavyDave
I'm praying that it doesnt happen. Unless we have 2 corners primed to sign with us next month as well as d linemen at minimum wage the defense is in the hurt locker and we are coming in on the short end of the trade. You all dont thin portis is going to come here and change his mind about renengotiating his contract? Why shouldnt portis who is traded for the best corner in the draft and a high second rounder not demand Roland Bailey money?
Phat Hog
I was against including a #2 pick, but after further consideration, the fact that there are other premier CBs out there this off season puts the Broncos in a position of strength. There is obviously not a long list of premier RBs available. Maybe we do the deal as is, and trade down our #5 for a late #1 and #2. One of my co-workers (so take this with a grain of salt:rolleyes: ) seems to think that the Skins have a blockbuster deal that hasn’t been aired in the media yet – a ‘shocker’ as he calls it. Rypien 91
I hope we get Portis, the man is a beast. I know the Broncos can put anybody in there and they will gain yards, but this guy is the real deal. Let Bailey go, get Portis, sign a CB in the free agent market and let's go from there. I trust Joe, so whatever he says and does, I will be happy with.
BayouBrave86
2 corners? Don't we have Fred Smoot, NavyDave? Im not saying he is primed to be the number 1 corner, but certainly we don't need to be in the market for 2 incredible corners. Im assuming you mean that the Skins should get a capable corner of backing up Smoot and whomever if one of them get injured, because you and I definately don't want Bauman or Ade Jimoh coming in to play for an extended amount of time. Im sure the Skins would not be making this deal unless they already had players targeted once Free Agency begins, and also the need for a shutdown corner is lessened with an improved Dline, and Im sure with Gibbs here, the dline we'll be addressed this upcoming offseason. Remember Navy, we got Gibbs running the show. You've probably been watching Skins football for a longer amount of time than I have been alive, come on man you gotta trust Gibbs! But hey I respect your opinion, your posts are always informative, and it is sorta bothersome that you and Bubba don't want this trade to go through...but I mean I just have full confidence in Gibbs and the coaching staff that all the needs of the team will be addressed. And so far, Gibbs has gone after the two most important pieces on offense. Many of the people here are clamoring for Stephen Jackson and Kevin Jones. In my opinion Clinton Portis is a mile ahead of these guys. Portis is a stud, and hopefully the Skins aquire him. The 2nd rounder does bother me a bit, but many here were willing to part with a 2nd in order to aquire Brunell, but that didn't happen and the Skins ended up getting by with a 3rd rounder. So think of it as, Skins and their third rounder for Portis and the Skins using the 2nd rounder for Brunell.
walkman
All I can say is, go get Portis. I would not give up the 2nd round pick though. We have so many other holes to fill. I hope Champ gets smoked by every receiver he goes up against. We can rub it in his face, when we get to the Super bowl and he's not a part of it. Sire
Smoot = #2 corner enough said. You have to replace champ with winfield or someone close to that talent level. Williams already has to part the Red Sea he atleast needs a little talent. My offseason plan / Dream. Trade Champ for Portis straight up. It kills me b/c Champ is my favorite player in the league but he doesn't want to stay. Portis is much better than a #6 pick. Sign Winfield to soften the loss of Champ. Go ahead and sign darren howard he's cheap and a body. Court the Freak and pray he can stay healthy. Sign robaire smith or fat a$$ ted washington. Sign Kleinsasser for a reasonable price (he isn't tony gonzalez). Draft Sean Taylor and a DT in the 2nd round. Somehow find someone that can punt consistently and we all live happily ever after. Remember it's a dream and the way snyder has overpaid it may be impossible.
AzSkinsFan63
Broncos blockbuster: Portis trade may be near Deal for Redskins' Bailey, No. 2 pick close, sources say INDIANAPOLIS - The Broncos and Washington Redskins are closing in on a blockbuster deal that would send Denver's Pro Bowl running back Clinton Portis to Washington for Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey. In addition to Bailey, Denver is asking for Washington's second-round pick in the April draft, National Football League sources confirmed this weekend. Until now, the Redskins have balked at surrendering the pick, one reason no agreement has been announced. Yet at least two other sources close to the Redskins say the deal, which would be one of the biggest in football history, is all but done. The Broncos are trying to first finalize a new contract with Pro Bowl middle linebacker Al Wilson before dealing with the Redskins. The Wilson deal could be completed today. But if the trade between Denver and Washington were completed, Bailey then would need to be signed as well - likely to a lucrative contract. Now think about this..Portis is relativeley cheap and I think we take over his contract completley in this trade. this frees up 6.mil from Champ and when Bruce Smith retires another 6 mil. putting us at about 12 mil under to go nuts in FA this season and have the draft next season. I'm hoping we get someone else also in this deal that can help a little with the sting of the 2nd rounder.

WallyG3
Warpath - We do need 2 more corners. Remember how many touchdowns we gave up last year because of poor play by our 3rd/4th string guys? We need a solid nickel PLUS someone to replace Champ. It doesn't need to be a probowler, but we need somebody better than what we've got.

Cskin
Not in it's present configuration. I think the 2nd round addition makes it a less attractive proposal from a "needs" standpoint. Portis is a terrific back, no doubt Top 3 or 4, but Champ is also widely known as the elite corner in the league. Denver's need is defensive secondary, where they are awful. Champ fills that hole. Redskins needs a prolific runningback in the backfield, Portis fills that hole. The 2nd limits the ability of Washington to fill a need, that of a young DT with skills who can help from day one. Igor or Sopoaga, Dockett, Dwan Edwards... they fit that bill. Without the 2nd, the Redskins lose that ability and subsequently become a weaker team in a Smashmouth division. BayouBrave86
Yeah WallyG I later addressed that need for a capable 3rd/4th corner in that response to NavyDave, I agree whole heartedly that the Skins need depth at CB. However, the talent needed to replace Champ at the no. 1 doesn't need to nearly as great as Champ (with an improved dline). Hopefully the Skins shore up that dline through the offseason!
