Sweet Sassy Molassy
Hey you guys, I need your help with this. I'm currently in the market for a new car, and I happened to be on my way home from work and while I was driving down the highway I saw a car next to me that was being sold. The guy wanted $1000 for it, the specs on it were; 1992 Mazda Protege LX The guy said it had about 230,000 miles on it, which is a lot, but he said it runs great. Either way, I haven't had a chance to check it out like I want to, but, I read some reviews on the same car, and people who recently purchased the same model car had good things to say about it. Does anyone have anything to say about the car?
dks1240
yea, my family has a mazda with about the same amount of miles and it runs fine, no problems....1,000 bucks-go for it!
Rypen_91
I have a 92 Protoge and it has been an amazing vehicle. I have not had any mojor work done on it other than break jobs and oil changes, ect. Depending on what he is asking i think it is a good buy. Mine has been very dependable. Blade
Joe, I wouldnt pay more than $750 for it. Wholesale for that car with THAT mileage on it is around $500, and the DEALER retail is only $800 according to info I got from a buddy who owns a dealership. Ancalagon the Black
When I left the States, I sold my 1992 Mazda Protegé LX for $1750. It had 190k miles on it and ran like a dream. Never had to work on it. Never had to do ANYTHING (except fuss with the stereo a bit). I loved that car. Check out Kelley Blue Book online for some quotes. Sweet Sassy Molassy
I checked KBB and the same car with the quoted # of miles, with standard features, was suggested at $2500 Manual and $2800 Auto.
Ancalagon the Black
Really? What crazy-rich zip code are you in? I did it for Maryland and California, and for a car with 230k miles in EXCELLENT condition, I'm getting a private-party-sale value of $1600 to $1700. Sweet Sassy Molassy
I live in Alpharetta, GA about 20 miles N. of Atlanta. It's a very upper/upper middle-class area ... for the most part.

My buddy used Manheim.com which is the largest wholesale auction corporation of used cars. They are the ppl who determine the wholesale prices of cars, and all car dealers use them to determine what the buy/sell prices on cars. The data he gave me says that a 92 protege DX with over 200k miles has a recommended retail value of $900.
Sweet Sassy Molassy
Blade, I was looking at the KBB value for the Protege DX it retails slightly less than the LX. Is it free for registration on manheim.com?
