Random quotes from the NFL Scouting Combine

Iowa OT Robert Gallery on going back for his senior season: “It was a tough decision. Obviously, I had great coaching at Iowa. That was a major part of my decision. I thought I could be a better player if I stayed another year. (Head coach Kirk Ferentz) was a great (OL) coach in the league. He still knows his stuff. To be able to work with him, our strength coach — they’ve all been a great help in my success. I worked on everything: leverage, hand placement. I’m trying to be perfect in everything I do.

Bills GM Tom Donahoe on RB Maurice Clarett not working out: “That’s a farce. That was expected that he wouldn’t work out. That’s ridiculous. Let’s not put Clarett in the same situation as (Willis) McGahee. That’s not fair to Willis. Willis, attitude-wise and character-wise, there’s a big difference.

Donahoe on what QB Drew Henson is worth: “Ask Houston.”

Clarett on what he’ll bring to the National Football League: “I’m not really sure what I’ll bring to this league. I’m training. I’ll have a Pro Day the first week of April in Columbus. I’m not really sure how they feel, but all the numbers they need to get they can get the first week of April.”

Clarett on whether money will change him: “It will change my address.”

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis on Clarett: “It really hurts college education with coming out early as an option. They won’t try as hard to finish their education and get scholarships.”

Pittsburgh WR Larry Fitzgerald on his strong eyes: “I got my eyes checked today and I have 20-15 (vision). The best I ever had was 20-10. My granddad was an optometrist, and he always had me do these crazy eye exercises. You know, like put two pennies (next to each other) and try to make them merge with your eyes. You focus on them so hard that they start to merge. I guess it strengthened my eyes. (laughs).”

Dolphins GM Rick Spielman on Henson: “I don’t have any doubt about his passion for football. There’s no doubt in my mind about the passion he has for the game. He’s just as good as anyone at the Combine.”
