RabidFan
The sports update said he spoke with Gibbs this morning and "is way more comfortable about the plan of Gibbs and his future" and also "welcomes the competition and is not upset and seeking a trade". Time to calm down for all. SERENITY NOW
Ghost of
Koken is not really giving Ramsey the credit. They are barely referring to the story.
mcees4life
Al Koken : "It was the meeting of the minds today" Doc: "Gibbs let Ramsey knew who was in charge and reiterated his potential to be the starter" Doc: "U can't get to the playoffs without 2 capable qb's" Doc: "Gibbs knows what to do, that's y he's making every position open to competition" Doc: "If u think u should be a starter, u shouldn't worry, just go compete and get the starting job" Doc: "The coaching staff will get back to basics, erradicate the cancer, and the best players will play" Doc: "The return to glory will be imminent, I guarantee it" Doc: "I understand Ramsey being a lil upset, but Gibbs handle the situation correctly, behind closed doors" Doc: "Gibbs is gonna get the best 53, he is happy wit Pat Ramsey, don't treat Ramsey like he's Mike Vick, get some people in case Pat goes down." ljer
"The coaching staff will get back to basics, erradicate the cancer, and the best players will play" The best thing I've heard in 10 years.
mcees4life
Playing an excerpt of Gibbs saying that he will croos the country, looking 4 Redskins to come here John Thompson: "It's been to complacent wit the Redskins, no one on the roster should feel comfrontable, because they have been losing." Doc: "the coaching staff will take the promotional aspect outta football and get back to blocking and tackling" Thompson: "Complacency creates an unhealthy environment, in terms of playing bad and losing. I commend Joe Gibbs on coming out and stating that the best players will play, and no one will be assured a spot or position on the team" Thompson: "I will be dissapointed if Gibbs rejects Ramsey because he wasn't the one who drafted him. Joe Gibbs hasn't won in the past because he was petty, Joe Gibbs knows what it takes to win. I think he loves Ramsey has big plans for Ramsey , but u sill need to create an atmosphere of competition."

Cskin
All of the loafers, laughers, and slackers be warned.... Gibbs is going to play the best 53 and the heck with the rest. The cancer will be removed, and I hope he makes an example out of someone who shows up at camp thinking it's another year of Club Med only you get paid to go there. Jimbo
The funny thing is, they're both right...to an extent. Ramsey has the right to feel frustrated and Gibbs has the right to bring in competition. The current trend is to name your QB and stick with him whether it's a mistake or not. Patrick wants badly to continue to be the starter and frankly, if he weren't frustrated, I'd be be worried. Look at Denny Green. He's already named Josh McCown as his QB without the benefit of a healthy competition. I think that's a mistake, especially for a new coach in a new situation, but that's how a lot of coaches do things now. Gibbs is just being Gibbs. He's a little bit old school in that he wants competition at EVERY position. If two guys are close, the more veteran of the two will probably start. I think at some point Patrick will realize that this competition will help him in the long run. Maybe not this year because certain escalator clauses may not be reached but down the road he will be the better QB for it. He's young and probably still not used to the sometimes-ugly business side of the game but once he gets a better view of the big picture, he'll have a better understanding and acceptance of life as a Redskin in the Nation's Capital. earl
the sports reporters said that this was a message to snyder as well as the players. by saying it is an open competition and addressing the issue starting with dany's boy ramsey sets the tone for his tenure. none of the players are safe, and not even the owner himself has a say on how this team is run. this is totally Gibb's show. i love it

Jimbo. I couldn't agree more. Sometimes it's OK to have some strife, some conflict. I too would hope that Gibbs wants competition, that Brunnel would at least be able to compete for the starting job and that Patrick would be a bit fussed and looking forward to proving it on the field. Having said all that, everything I've ever read about all three of those guys is that they're all pretty good dudes, so when the dust settles and the determination has been made, we'll be sitting pretty. As it sits now, this is a pretty good position for..........US FANS!!

In 3 or 4 years maybe, but not now.
Jay Master Jay
I thought that is what Gibbs said all along?? He wanted a veteran back up not someone to take Ramseys job. He has to tell Brunell what he needs to hear to join the Redskins.

Frunobulax
I just returned from my banning, so I'll offer my take: I am so relieved that Ramsey is not going anywhere. I think we have a real diamond in the rough here, and I'd like to see what Gibbs can do to further his development as an NFL quarterback. If the O-line can keep him off his back, that should help a lot. However, I won't breathe easy until I see Ramsey in uniform at the first game.
