Chris McAlister reportedly wants $16-19 million SB - Are you listening Champ Bailey?

Recommended Posts

Reportedly CB Chris McAlister wants a signing bonus of $16-19 million. You know that Champ Bailey is following this development and licking his chops at that possibility. If McAlister gets this size of a bonus, can we expect Bailey to demand the same amount?

And more importantly can we really afford to pay Bailey this size of a SB? :(

Ravens | McAlister Could be Franchise Tagged - from www.KFFL.com

Jamison Hensley, of the Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens CB Chris McAlister, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, is not expected to have a long-term deal in place with the Ravens before the NFL's Feb. 24 deadline to name franchise players. McAlister's agent, Mitch Frankel, said he thinks they are far apart on negotiations and he doesn't have great optimistic expectations that something will be worked out by then. If the two sides cannot work out a deal, McAlister would likely be tagged as the team's franchise player. He is believed to be seeking a signing bonus between $16 and $19 million on a long-term deal.

I’d be shocked to see him get that kind of cash. Ray Lewis did a deal in 2002 that was for 7 years 50 million with a 19 million dollar signing bonus. Is McAlister worth the same green as Ray Lewis to the team? I think not.

If Champ is looking for that kind of cash he can take a hike too.

That is crazy money. I think that there is no way he or Champ get that big of a sb. I think Champ will get 13 to maybe 15 million. Will he be a Redskin I hope so but can we afford that much with a #5 draft pick? Time will tell. The off season is never boring around here is it?

How?

Champ might demand a signing bonus equivalent to that of Lavar.

If the 'Skins give that to him, the market will be set for C-Mac.

But no one thinks McAlister deserves a better signing bonus than Champ. If Champ signed before him, he could use his contract as a safe gauge of what he should get, but not more.

Champ is better than him, McAlister plays better in zones than he does in man coverage.
