No surprise--they're clamoring for Ramsey in Dallas

Big Easy

The reason many of us should feel this to be at least moderately interesting, is because this is the sam Ramsey who I believe was beat up by some of these very same Dallas media types before and during the season. Oh..and one more reason, because many of the same fans who are now going to completly agree to this are guilty of the same. many in order to defend their guy QC. Though like many here, they're basing such a thing of rumor and speculation.

NBote: I do not like to see Ramsey and Cowboys used in such ways. May have to start :pint: early today.

Wow!

So much for all those trollers telling how much better (or at least as good) Quincy was than Ramsey at the same stage in his career.

No way are we letting Ramsey slip away, even IF we got Brunell.

p.s. Always good to see you on the board, Big Easy.

Not meaning to open any wounds, but did you feel kinda stung by seeing Delhomme in the SB like we did seeing Stephen Davis in there, or like we did last year seeing Rich Gannon and Brad Johnson?

Ramsey would be a good fit in Dallas

By Randy Galloway

Star-Telegram Staff Writer

Attention, all inhabitants of Valley Ranch.

Big Bill? Jerry? Stephen?

It's time to make amends.

A year ago, you fellows were faked on Jake, and the Delhomme football home became Carolina.

History now records this as a big mistake by the Cowboys, although the brain trust has kind of received a free ride locally on criticism. Even after the Super Bowl, most of the media seem hesitant to slap the Cowboys with the cheap second-guess, and it is cheap, over Jake Delhomme.

I wish I had the same professionalism when it comes to the cut-rate, cutthroat second-guess. But that's not the case, has never been the case, and it's too late to change now.

Delhomme should have been the Cowboys' quarterback last season. Period. Over and out.

But just in time for the 2004 season, another solution at quarterback might have suddenly surfaced.

Here's the deal.

Stay closely tuned to that story now developing in Washington, where Joe Gibbs has returned to his coaching roots. If Gibbs does acquire veteran quarterback Mark Brunell, then the Cowboys should be prepared to counterattack immediately.

Big Bill, take your first-round draft pick in April, the 22nd overall, and offer it to the Redskins for ...

Patrick Ramsey.

Parcells pledged to us in January that if he can find someone better than Quincy Carter, he will do the upgrade.

Ramsey is that upgrade, and that's not even a debate.

But is Ramsey coming to the Cowboys even a remote possibility?

Remote, yes. But it is a possibility, for several reasons.

First, go back to Brunell, the veteran QB who was a definite to be on the NFL street by early March.

Jax is committed to the young quarterback Byron Leftwich, who hindsight tells us would have been a perfect first-round pick for the Cowboys last April. I do, however, attempt to limit myself to one cheap second-guess per column.

Anyway, the Cowboys had an interest in Brunell. But word leaked a month ago that he was the No. 1 free-agent target of the Miami Dolphins, which meant a possible bidding war, therefore probably dousing the interest of Bill and Jerry.

But out of nowhere over the weekend, a story broke in Washington that Gibbs was prepared to act immediately on Brunell, offering Jax a second-round draft pick in a trade. If the report is accurate, the Redskins want to acquire Brunell before he is released into free agency.

The Jacksonville newspaper reported Sunday that the Redskins, Dolphins, Cowboys and Chargers had contacted the Jaguars about Brunell, and were offering second- or third-round picks.

No trade can be made in the NFL until March 3, the same day Brunell was scheduled to receive a $2 million roster bonus. Supposedly, the Jaguars will now pay the bonus, figuring a second-round pick, or possibly a first, would be worth it.

The interest in Brunell has exceeded expectations.

But the Redskins have become the surprising X-factor. Gibbs reportedly had a Monday meeting with Brunell, where the quarterback wanted the assurance he would be coming to Washington as the starter ahead of the highly regarded Ramsey.

If Gibbs gives that assurance, it would be shocking, but while Gibbs has been away from the game for more than a decade, his track record was well established in Washington. In winning three Super Bowls, pre-salary cap, he relied heavily on veterans.

Ramsey was a first-round draft pick two years ago. It's doubtful the Redskins could afford to have him on the bench.

There was rumbling in Washington over the weekend that Ramsey would be traded if Brunell ends up there.

Which brings us to the bitter divisional rivalry between the Cowboys and the Redskins. Should the Cowboys surrender a first-round pick to Little Danny Snyder? Would Little Danny want to give up a talent like Ramsey to the Cowboys, a team with a question at quarterback?

From the Cowboys' point of view, it's a trade that has to be pursued if Brunell ends up in Washington. It's hard to believe Gibbs would deal Ramsey, but there's no doubt he has a strong interest in Brunell.

Big Bill? Jerry? Stephen? Here's your opportunity to make amends for Delhomme.

Get on this case immediately.

Idiot. You want our QB while taking a cheap shot at our owner. :finger:

A rumour that has already been proven to be a crock of :pooh: but yet some here still run with it as being fact.

No matter what happens with Ramsey or anybody else, I will always be a 'skins fan, until the day I die. I have never turned my back on this team, even through the 3-13 year and the following years, I have always loved this team and I always will. How can you be a die hard if you would turn your back on Gibbs? Give me a break.

Blue

Don't worry. We aren't going to trade the contents of the urinals and septic tanks at Redskins Park to Dallas, let alone our franchise QB!

And Mbennett, I wouldn't trade him for Roy Williams, not TEN Roy Williams. He's overrated and can't pass cover. What's more he plays S, one of the least significant positions, QB is very important. And simple fact is, Dallas was the #2 defense the year BEFORE Williams got there. I don't think he makes that much of a difference honestly.

This won't happen. It's nothing more than wishful thinking down in Dallas. Gibbs views Ramsey at the very least as a capable backup and someone to groom for the future, which should be enough to keep him around. Besides, you don't trade him within the division and to your arch rival. Doing that could haunt us for the next ten years, and I just don't believe we're interested in tempting fate like that. At least I would hope not.

our owner snyder is called a lot of things in the media and in this forum... but one thing we all know is that he is as much of a Redskins freak as anyone in here... there is no way he will trade Ramsey to cowboys for a reasonable price of just first round pick... maybe if cowboys decided to break the bank for him like their first and second this year, and even that is just maybe... i think if cowboys do offer something for Ramsey, Snyder will jsut say no.

I would pay Dallas to take Ramsey. Here take our 2nd pick --------( which some of you maniacally covet for no apparent reason.) This Ramsey love-fest needs to stop now.

Bottom Line: Ramsey 2 seasons no playoffs

Brunell 2 AFC Championship appearances and a

far better arm.

Most of you are not Redskins fans you would be far better suited to be Eagles/Giants fans. You seem to forget the only stat that matters: 1 playoff victory/appearance in 12 years. Why is this concept so difficult for you to grasp????

Sorry, but you're wrong.

Better arm??? Have you watched any Redskin games?

2 seasons no playoffs. AMAZING huh... we did have dumbass Spurrier coaching! And no defense. And no runningback.

And how long ago were those AFC championship games? Brunell is held together by chewing gum, and is one hit away retirement, Troy Aikman style.

ok, ok. seriously guys. you all have to stop posting this stuff about dallas and ramsey. it really is making me want to :puke: . if we trade ramsey anywhere, especially dallas, i just may have to boycott football, as much as i love it.

i dont see him being traded, as it would be the stupidest move since i dont know when. why trade a blossoming young QB with smarts, toughness and a cannon just because we have another QB who is 33 years old and wont even be here past 2007. it makes no sense. i dont even think cerrato is that stupid.

Harrington, no playoffs 1st 2 years - so i guess the Texans shoud be saying get rid of em?

David Carr, same

Brett Farve, no playoffs 1st 2 years - GB should have dumped him too right?!!

Steve McNair, no playoffs 1st 4 years - so they should have gotten rid of him?

Brunell hasnt made the playoff as a starter in 4 seasons! Yeah, lets go pick him up?!?!?!? What are you thinking? QB's dont develop overnight in most cases, Ramsey has a future and many people whether they are Skins fans or not will admit to that.
