Anyone Else Suspicious maybe Jacksonville is over-hyping the likelihood of a deal

Obviously Gibbs wants a 2nd QB, both as insurance, and as a mentor to Ramses (please don't bother me with all the "we're gonna trade Ramsey" b.s. File that part under the Smoot trades, the Gardner for Owens deal, and the Spurrier to Miami nonsense.

My guess is that Jacksonville is trying desperately to get a deal for the guy, and they are conveniently leaking out stories of high draft picks from us to try and up the ante. If you're a Jacksonville exec leaking the story to Morty, aren't you gonna be tempted to juice up the scenario a bit. And if you're Brunell, you welcome the Skins approaching you, even if you know it's likely for a backup position, because it increases your bargaining power with Dallas and Miami. Everybody believe Dannyboy shells out huge bonuses, so this gives Brunell a quick way to up the ante.

Most likely Gibbs is approaching Brunell with the opportunity to compete for the starting job, with the understanding that he wants him to help mentor his young QB. Everybody on the Jacksonville side talks like it's almost a done deal to raise the stakes. Remember when we were hoping to trade a 7th for Dalton, and suddenly the Broncos had a done deal with another team for a 4th. Yeah right. They came crawling back for our 7th.

Everybody in the Brunell scenario is playing chicken. Who will blink first?

You know what I'm starting to think. That all this trade speculation is going to do wonders for Patrick. As much as everybody says it's going to mess with his head, I think he might come in with a juiced up attitude and that all this talk is only going to make him better. He'll be out to prove himself in a big way regardless of whether the whole situation is being over-hyped, or if indeed it has truth to it.

Translation: the Redskins organization will benefit as a whole.

The key is, will Jacksonville ante up the $2 mil roster bonus due to Brunell on March 1? If they do, they are gambling that one of the teams that wants Brunell will give them something in trade worth more to them than the $2 mil.

I think no one will want to give Jacksonville a 2nd round pick for Brunell, since he will have to be cut or traded by Jax before next season starts for sure. We should just sit tight and see what Jacksonville does, I bet they fold their hand and cut Brunell before March 1. Then we can compete with Dallas, Miami, and SD for his services without giving up a pick.

One thing to remember, Gibbs is a born-again Christian, and so is Brunell. Brunell might prefer to play for Gibbs rather than some other coach who isn't as concerned about character as Gibbs is.
