QB Controversy? Great!

First off, let me say that I personally doubt Brunell will end up here. Every indication is that Brunell wants to go somewhere where he can start, without any QB controversy. He could do a lot better in Miami or San Diego. But assuming he does come here, I think a QB controversy is great.

Why? Because Patrick will only elevate his game. He's so freaking competitive, and he'll learn a lot with a steady vet on the team. Last year, we all knew the season was over when Pat went down for good - in this vain, either QB can step up and play in an injury situation... and Brunell gets injured more easily.

The only situation where this is a bad move in my mind is if they trade Patrick. Bad, bad move. He's a young QB who's shown bursts of excellence. Give him a chance to learn and grow (a la Pennington) and he'll rock the house. Trading a young talent away and trading for a good player in Brunell, but one who's really only got 2 or 3 years left in his career just doesn't make sense.

A QB controversy is only going to be good on a Gibbs team, especially between Brunell and Patrick, two guys who are not at all known as bad locker room influences.

I think a QB controversy is great

Ask the Buffalo Bills (Johnson vs. Flutie), Cleveland Browns (Couch vs. Holcomb), Miami Dolphins (Fiedler vs. Griese), San Diego Chargers (Flutie vs. Brees), etc, if they thought that QB controversies were good.

Controversies aren't a good thing. They are distractions. In fact, they can be quite capable of dividing lockerrooms as well.

A controversy in my mind tells me that both your QBs haven't stepped up enough to take charge and solidify the number 1 job. Insurance policies are great, and Brunell would be an excellent option. However, in the end either him or Patrick has to step up without there being any distractions that could undermine the overall wellbeing of the team.

I DOUBT BRUNELL WILL COME HERE AS WELL. BUT SOME OF YOU THINK THAT RAMSEY IS "OWED" THE STARTING JOB LIKE HE IS SOME DEMI-GOD. NO ONE IS OWED ANYTHING ESPECIALLY IN THIS ERA OF FREE AGENCY. THERE IS NO LOYALTY NOR SHOULD THERE BE. IF INDEED BRUNELL IS BROUGHT IN HE SHOULD START, WHY HAVE SOMEONE OF HIS TALENT/CALIBER RIDING THE BENCH??

Gibbs made a statement early on that he wants a vet QB for a *back-up*. When we start looking at a vet QB, why is everyone screaming?

Chill!

PR will not be traded. PR will compete for the starting position just like everyone else on the team. PR will end up being our starter.

Relax!

NOCALMIKE.....exactly!!!!!!

trading the future has been the bane of this team for far too long. getting a savy back-up QB is a smart move. but at what cost? if things go well......you have a cap hit riding the bench all season and you lose a sure fire, long-term starter with the 5th pick in the second round. as I mentioned in another post - we need to see the true cost and full strategy before jumping to conslusions. but, on its face, I don't like this move.

The trading part just doesn't make sense. If Gibbs likes depth at the QB spot, why would he then get rid of Ramsey and pick up another QB that doesn't have any chemistry with any of our players? I just don't see us getting rid of Ramsey.

If Brunnell comes here, there should be a full compition to see who gets the starting job during training camp and the preseason.

Remember, everything that we've heard about Brunnell coming here are rumors. Nothing is set in stone until his contract is signed.
