fish
SHEEESH! Ole #28 would have set the league record for INTs if he just had some hands! In fact he probably would have lapped it! And Champ isn't much better. OK he's DEF better but still.......I was noticing it this last season and today durimng the Pro Bowl, it was just more blatant. Canadian Hog
Hands down, Champ has worse hands. I was holding my breath every time I saw him about to attempt to field a punt two seasons ago. It sure was an adventure.
Ghost of
ahem--Darrell's hands weren't that bad. I recall several game-winning or clinching INTs that Green made. I don't recall saying "oh come on Darrell you could have caught that!" too often.

Look, I'm not trying to bad mouth DG or anything, even though I guess it could be said that I am. I am still a HUGE fan of #28, in fact I juts tossed out $300 for his jersey, but there were PLENTY of catches he should have made for INTs. And YES, I do recognize that alot of those plays he only made that play or had the opportunity for the INT because he was the best CB in the league and a phenominal athlete making a phenominal play - no doubt. I just do remember alot of dropped balls.
NoCalMike
Darrell seemed to be a different style anyway. He was undersized, so he used his speed to bait the QB into throwing his way, then he would close the gap and slap the ball away. Champ is more the type to run stride for stride with the CB and try to shut him down the entire time. Of course I am not old enough to have seen Darrell in the prime of his career, just highlights. bnacpa
DG's hands were incredible when he was in his prime. He fielded punts on special occasions (does anyone remember him leaping over Cap Bozo for a score against the Bears in the 87 playoffs?), but Gibbs didn't want to risk injury to him the same way the Giants did with Sehorn. I remember several one-handed interceptions that DG had and for a long time he had at least one interception per year, if not more. I don't know what his streak ended at (in terms of seasons), but I think it lasted until he was finally benched in favor of Deion Sanders. Bailey is a whole different story ... everything seems to get in his way when going for the ball ... it is really pretty damn funny, until I remind myself that he is a Redskin. In the pro bowl he went for the ball and it hit his helmet and he lost sight of it. The ball always seems to hit his hands/arms and then ricochet off of his helmet, shoulder pads, go over his head and hit his back, and so forth ... He needs to invest in some serious stickem. chet06
In the beginning of his career Darrell was on the hands team for onside kicks..
GSF
Darrell did make some incredible catches for pics, but he also dropped a lot of easy pics, and he's mentioned his bad hands many times in interviews. Champ's hands are worse though. He can't catch a cold.

BayouBrave86
Doesn't really matter who had better hands or not. DG was twice the player Bailey will ever be. Green made the clutch interceptions, those are the ones that count. I still remember his interception against the Lions at RFK. Freakin unbelievable! bulldog
the difference between the players is that Green could grab a ball and take it back to the house while Bailey makes the pick and then gets tackled or falls to the ground Green like Deion Sanders could beat you in coverage, by taking the ball away and on returns. Bailey has shown himself to be a top corner at times in coverage, but has not made many plays with the ball in his hands since his rookie season against Jake Plummer. His stint as a PR in 2002 was an absolute joke. I mean poor Champ, he couldn't even field the ball cleanly

Check the stats. DGin his first 5 years had a total of 17 INT's. Champ's first 5 yielded 18. DG registered 1 TD in his first 5. Champ also has 1 TD. Don't take this the wrong way. I love DG and would trade a fifth year DG over a fifth year Bailey andy day of the week, but when you compare the hands of the two in coverage, it's about even. Kick returns and tackling are a different story........
fish
Let's just hope we're looking back 15 yrs from now on Champ's career just like we're looking at DG's: 1. Whole career spent w/ us. 2. Guarenteed 1st time HoFer 3. Source of organizational pride off the field. Hey, it could happen!
bnacpa
I hope he is a guaranteed first time HOF ... after what has happened with Monk (who I thought should have been a shoe-in), I just don't have as much faith in the selector's.
