Alittle NFL Europe News (Ham Sandwich on his way to Berlin)

The Washington Redskins are allocating a quarterback with playing experience during the 2003 regular season in Gibran Hamdan, who spent four games as the number two passer behind former Berlin Thunder backup Tim Hasselbeck.

Hamdan was selected by the Redskins in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He spent much of the season on the practice squad before being activated in November. He saw playing time in the season-ending meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles, completing 1 of 2 passes for 7 yards.

Yes, Hamdam got in the final little series against the Eagles in the last game.

He looked pretty good, I believe he was two for three maybe, and threw a nice 10 yard strike to Rod Gardner, that Rod Gardner dropped. So he shouldve been 3 for 3. He looked alright, I mean it was against like really soft coverage and all but still, he made good decisions and nice strong accurate throws.

I think he can really come along over there.

Good luck Gibran!

Really, Hamden is the typical kind of QB that Beathard used to draft for Gibbs in the '80s. Like Jay Schroeder, he was a baseball player who developed late as a football player. Like Mark Rypien, he's a big, strong, smart, mostly immobile QB with a big arm.

Beathard seemed to draft a QB almost every year. Some of them amounted to nothing, like Tom Flick and Bob Holly. But Schoeder, Ryp, and Stan Humphries were real finds. Hamden sounds like a Bobby Beathard special, all right. Instead of stashing him on IR like they used to, he gets stashed on the practice squad and sent to Europe. He might develop. If he's smart, like they say, he and Gibbs will take to each other.

Yes, Cliff Russell definitly has some talent, but he really needs to be polished in his route running and just knowing some little little things, like WHEN TO LOOK FOR THE BALL! And the only way to get that is through a lot of reps, so sending him would be great.

I'm sorry Hamdan isn't going to make it in the NFL. He didn't do anything at Indiana. So what if he has a strong arm? Strong-armed QB's in the NFL are a dime a dozen.

When Hasselbeck can walk in off the street and move ahead of Hamdan with only a few weeks of preparation, and Hamdan was on the team since spring, it kind of says something about Hamdan's ability.

inmate's right, if every strong arm was a sucess, Jeff George would be an All-time allstar.

Hamdon needs to show me something before I trust him, he didn't look too good in camp, Banks was playing better, I'm not even sure if Hamdon will start in Europe.

But I'm not shutting the door on him, maybe he will devolope.

NFL Europe is becoming NFL Germany ... there are now 4 teams in Germany. There isn't much press out there on this, but Barcelona lost their team this past year and a new team, Cologne, has emerged. Now there are 4 out of 6 teams in Germany: Rhein, Frankfurt, Berlin, and Cologne. The only other teams are Scotland and Amsterdamn.

Additionally ... I would like to see if we can convince the OL that we recently signed to go over there and try out center. He reneged last year on Green Bay and they ended up cutting him for that. I would also like to see Cliff Russell, Scott Cloman, and some of our TE's get out there and put forth an effort. Our TE's need to learn how to block, so this may be a good opportunity for them.

I think that's the point of sending him over there. If he was good enough for the 3rd QB spot already, there would be no point. I don't understand the need to send Hutch over. He started in the NFL and this isn't going to make him any more attractive to the Cowboys or anybody else.

Regardless.....if Hammy can go over.....light it up. He might show Gibbs enough to keep him around another year to develop.
