GB81
NFL didn't give in. The courts rules the way they had to. This was inevitable, but unfortunate. When Clarett gets drafted in the 4th round, I'll get a good laugh.

U.S. District Judge Shira A. Scheindlin ordered the NFL to let Clarett enter April's draft.
@DCGoldPants
so, does this mean high school kids can go straight for the NFL now?
Ghost of
They have no evidence he was involved and the amount of calls placed by his "sponsor" was not enough to warrant any kind of connection other than Maurice saying something like "hey, my knee feels better this week." And there's no evidence or even the allegation that Clarett was involved in any gambling. You can't just lob accusations around like that. If I played football and some guy was giving me stuff, I'm not responsible for who he decides to call and lay money with if I say "we had a good practice." Ghost of
This country is fast becoming a joke. Look, I can sympathize with a guy who is very talented who does not want to risk injury and lose out on millions of dollars and being able to live his dream. Fortunately, college athletes will still not be entering too early because they often don't see the field as a starter until their third year anyway. It's not anti-trust--you can go play for the Arena League, just because it's not as highly regarded as the NFL does't mean it's not employment. Also, a private organization should have some right to set standards(same applies to NBA too, IMO) on experience--as far as I know you can't just be a cop out of high school in most states and localities. And they make you take unscientific lie detectors as conditions to employment--how is it that the NFL can't set an age limit?

I think this is just about Clarett who has been out of HS for over 2 years now. So don't think this will open the doors for HS players. No NFL team will draft HS player. SkinInsite
Maybe not straight out of high school but if someone had a super freshmen season like say Mike Williams, then he could probably come out and be drafted high. Beside they struck down the whole three year after high school rule, so this could turn out just like the NBA.
Dexter's Better
NFL should black ball him... no one pick him.
Ghost of
IMO, it would be silly of a team to not at least pick in the 4th round. He's a first round talent(though a little fragile, it seems.)
jbooma
If the gambling thing is cleared he might actually go back to college.
jbooma
The NFL might ask the court to make a stay while the try to appeal the decision. There is a 50-50 chance of this and if it were to happen this could keep him out of the draft and tie him up so he can't be in this draft. So he is not yet in the draft. I didn't think of this but the smartest lawyer in DC is saying this currently on the TK show.
Dexter's Better
I am serious... the NFL should all agree not to draft or pick players -- until after 3 years. Who cares if some judge says he can enter. That does not and will not mean that any team should be allowed to pick him. The owners must realize that the viability of the NFL Depends on colleges keeping players for at least 3 years.

Ghost of
jb I have a feeling that while you can appeal and ask for a stay, you cannot do so for so long as to make your case a fait accompli. No, I imagine the appeal or stay would have to expire before draft day.

The NFL selects players who are eligble and never selects every eligble player. -- Simply put. Don't select him until you feel he is ready (You being the NFL). Meaning is isn't ready until he is 21 or 22.

When you have to unite with other owners to ban someone because of his age this is discrimination. Teams have already said he is a second or third rounder they have already put out he can play in the NFL. The NFL would look so stupid if they tried to pull something like that. Any decent employment lawyer would tear them a new one.
