Another week, another weekly report from Woody . . . and another cutting observation . . . "Patrick Johnson deserves a long look. He can catch everything thrown at him . . ."

Deep enough

Depth behind starting WRs Laveraneus Coles and Rod Gardner should be a strength. The problem will be deciding which backups to keep. Darnerien McCants should be able to remain the No. 3 receiver. Patrick Johnson deserves a long look. He can catch everything thrown at him and is a decent backup punt returner and a willing special teams player. Taylor Jacobs has to learn a new offense, show speed off the line and play on special teams. An intriguing candidate is Scott Cloman, who spent 2003 on the practice squad. He's a big, physical receiver with good hands.

Role player

RDT Bernard Holsey started in 2003, but if Washington hopes to compete for a playoff spot, he needs to be a backup. Over the long term, Holsey gets pushed off the line too much. If he's used as a role player, Holsey's size, grit and hustle help the defense. Holsey does a good job of using leverage and taking on blockers. The Redskins should reach a long-term agreement with CB Champ Bailey. Doing so would create salary-cap space, prevent ill feelings and stop another team from swooping in and signing Bailey.

Not really. I think he's just going on what everyone in the world knows to be conventional wisdom. It may just seem to be the way that you put it ... but what he writes is always original, and well-thought out. It always makes him a good read.
