Memorable Redskins Games

Im getting excited for next season like never before, and seeing the daily countdown on the homepage isnt helping - seems to slow things down... Anyway I am going to the 1st game back next year in the new Joe Gibbs era (hopefully vs. the Cowboys) and it will be one of the most memorable Redskins games that I can remember being at in a while. I was curious to see what memorable Redskins games anyone has been too? Stories?

I have been to many memorable games, but the one that sticks out to me the most would be the 1987 NFC Championship game on 1/17/88.

Not only was it the Championship, but it also was my birthday.

It was my first Championship game. The tailgate was awesome. Even though we had snow on the ground, and it was cold out, we didn't feel a thing, we were so pumped up. Then, my friends got me a birthday cake for the tailgate. It was white, with red and yellow icing on it with 2 mini Redskin helmets, that read Happy 28th. Hail to the Redskins.

Then, I go inside RFK.

The place was electric. I have been to a bunch of games before that, and never felt the electicity that was in the air that day before a game. We all knew we were going to win, because we had Joe Gibbs on our sideline.

Then, the game came down to one play. It was 4th down and goal for the Vikings, with about a minute to go in the game, and I looked over to the Skins sideline, and saw Gibbs kneeling down. I said "Oh my God, this is it." Then, when the ball hit the ground after the incomplete pass at the 1, (thanks to Darrell Green) everyone in the stadium, went nuts.

Everyone was jumping up and down, people hugging strangers, people high fiveing, and the noice level from everyone cheering was incredable.

After I got back to our tailgate after the game, I said to my friend (who I got my tickets from) that "That was the loudest I ever heard RFK." He then told me that that was about half as loud as when we beat the Cowboys in the '82 NFC Championship.

That blew my mine when he told me that.

Then, we got back to his house, and we partyed allnight.

Needless to say, I didn't go to work the next day.

Darrell Green's last game against the Cowgirls:

I bought a pair of tickets in the 2002 section for like $200 a piece. Anyway, after the game was over I went down to the front row to see Darrell do a postgame lap. Next to me was a guy with the sign:

"Redskins team - $800million, Corporate chopper - $4million - Deion Sanders - $45million - Darrell Green - Priceless. Thomas Boswell saw the sign and came running up to the guy and asked the guy if he could use the quote the next morning and interviewed the guy. Since I was standing next to the guy Boswell asked me my most fondest memories of Darrell - which I did. It was cool because he quoted 2 paragraphs of what I said verbatim as he was taking notes on a small pad...I have framed that article - "Green gets touch the touches all in farewell." Wonder if anyone remembers that article. Was on the front cover of the Sports Section.
