jimster
Slowik Named Coordinator; Kurt Schottenheimer Joins Staff Jan 28, 6:33 PM (ET) Email this Story GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - The Green Bay Packers promoted assistant Bob Slowik to defensive coordinator and hired former Detroit Lions assistant Kurt Schottenheimer as defensive backs coach Wednesday. Slowik replaces Ed Donatell, who was fired Jan. 16 after the Packers lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs. Slowik, who had served as defensive backs coach, has been with the Packers for four years. He has been a defensive coordinator in the NFL twice before, with Chicago from 1993-98 and Cleveland in 1999. Schottenheimer, the younger brother of San Diego coach Marty Schottenheimer, was defensive coordinator for the Lions. But coach Steve Mariucci recently selected former Bears coach Dick Jauron to replace Schottenheimer as defensive coordinator. Why isn't he on San Diego's staff? TC4
When Marty took over the HC job with the Chargers, Kurt instead took the DC job with the Lions for whatever reason
SPare
The funny thing is that I think Spurrier interviewed him to be the DC in DC when he arrived.
The Full Monty
Hey, we ranked 10th in overall D and Lavar had his most violently disruptive season under Kurt's watch.
Ford
Yea Kurt utilized LaVar better than any other defensive coach we've had. Hopefully Gregg Williams and big Joe will change that.
NavyDave
G Williams comes with street cred for getting it done on the most important side of the ball so Lavar may have a monster season
