Khun Kao
I am a 3rd generation 'Skins fan. My grandfather and my father used to be season ticket holders at Griffith Stadium. Unfortunately, my grandfather has passed, so I only get to talk about 'Skins folklore with my Pops now. Some great anecdotes to be shared, thats for sure. I don't remember the specifics, but my Pops told me of a game at Griffith Stadium where there was such a torrential downpour during the game that there was water easily a foot deep on one end of the field, and the field judge had to hold the ball until the team lined up (and the Center took control) so it would not float away. Also, despite a number of very intelligent and respectful Eagles fans that we've had the pleasure to make our acquaintance, the Eagles fans have HISTORICALLY been the worst!!! My Pops consistently tells me that the Eagles fans have ALWAYS been the rudest, crudest, and rowdiest fans in his 'Skins experience. I consider myself to have been born bleeding Burgundy and Gold. By the time football began to truly matter to me, Gibbs had just started coaching the 'Skins. 1981. I was 11 years old. I had the pleasure of supporting a true team of winners during my most formative years! I have stuck by the 'Skins through thick and thin, winning or losing seasons. Sure, each year there are other teams (winners) that I have also supported while my 'Skins were struggling, but the bottom line is that in my world, there are the Redskins, and 31 other teams that play against them.... How about the rest of you? What is your Redskins Family Tradition?
Rypien 91
My grandfather and dad were huge 'skins fans, so I had no choice in the matter. Everybody on my dad's side of the family were big 'skins fan except for my uncle who is a rams fan (even the LA times!!) Every sunday you could count on a redskin game on TV at my grandparents...man it was great. I have bleed burgandy and gold since 1979. For me, there is no other team but the 'skins! It is the redskins and then everybody else. Another constant in our family is our hatred for Dallas. What a bunch of bums. My dad told me when I was young.."you can like who you want, but you won't pull for the cowboys, not in my house". My dislike for the cowboys has been going on as long as my love for the skins! It killed me in the mid 90's to see my team struggling and the cowboys winning super bowls, but we will be back, no doubt. My grandfather passed away a couple years ago, so my dad and I carry on the redskin love and so will my kids. My father and I started a tradition this past year, to make it to at least 1 game at FedEx every year. This is something I will carry on with my kids. Hail to the Redskins!!! :dallasuck

SlinginSammy HOF '63
I'm it just like Storm is obviously for geographic reasons. I don't know where the heck I got it. It just happened. I guess some are blessed to be born into the family while others like me God just smiles upon us and we are born with this passion
Khun Kao
My Pops and I shared some of the most memorable "Father-Son Moments" over the Washington Redskins. I was visiting my Father the day that the Redskins, under Norv Turner, came back from a 1st half shellacking by the Carolina Panthers (and RB Biakabatuka), featuring an amazing, and equally acrobatic one-armed TD catch for a score by the otherwise non-factor Michael Westbrook. My Dad and I watched the Atlanta game together earlier this season. Despite the end of season results, it was great to be a 'Skins fan for that day! I also remember calling my Dad during the 4th qtr of our first match-up with the Giants this year. I asked him if he was still watching the game. He has begun the habit of only watching the 1st half or Redskins games over the last few years for reasons we can all sympathize with. He told me that he had, as usual, stopped watching. When I told him that the game was tied and going to overtime, he was in SHOCK! He elected not to watch because he didn't want to jinx it. Well, unfortunately that began the tailspin that marked the rest of our season. The absolute greatest moment was when I called him midday on the Tuesday where Joe Gibbs hiring was announced. I had been literally dancing around my apartment ALL MORNING, pumping my fists into the air and yelling "YES! YES! YES!!!!!". It finally occurred to me to call my Dad mid-afternoon to get his thoughts. I asked him, "So, have you heard the news?!?!?" He said, "What news?" I couldn't believe it!!! He had not heard yet! (he is retired and spends the better part of his days watching TV and surfing the internet). So I said, "The Redskins have hired a coach! Guess who?" He made a guess or two, whose names I no longer remember. All I remember was replying, "Better than that...." I'm sure the obvious excitement in my voice finally clued him in, because his third guess was, "Gibbs?" "YES!!!!!!!!!" Needless to say, we both spent the next 20 minutes on the phone cheering to ourselves about how excited we both were and how FINALLY, our team WOULD RETURN TO ITS GLORY DAYS!!!! There is no doubt, Redskins Faithful, our Glory Days are about to return!!!! Will we be Super Bowl Champions? Who knows??? The fact is that we will no longer have an underacheiving team that fades in the 4th quarter! We will have Redskins that opposing coaches, teams, and fans will have to take seriously.... and RESPECT!!!!! Remember 1982? It was all about RESPECT! I no longer remember who said it, but some opposing coach made the news by wondering aloud that the Redskins even had fans at all! RESPECT was the teams rallying cry all year long! All the way to Super Bowl XVII and VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

skins19
My Dad's family is all Redskins fans so I had no choice when I was born. One of my uncles lost sight of that for awhile but he has come back to the fold. The two jokes in my family I remember while growing up were: If you are not a Redskins fan, you are no longer part of the family and My Grandpa always said he rooted for the Redskins and anyone who plays Dallas. That second part became alot more real to me when he got a shirt that said that for Christmas one year. I have frequent conversations with my dad about the team and whenever my grandpa comes to town, the three of us really get going. Our wives just leave the room for awhile because they know we will be a while and we won't respond to anything off topic.
Heavy Jumbo
My mother grew up in the DC area. She used to go to the training camps. When she married my dad, she converted him from the Dophins to root for the Skins. I've been a true fan since I was 12, which would've been the '96 season, so I haven't had much to cheer about. BUT NOW GIBBS IS BACK!
