In the coming weeks, it's a sure bet the Titans will ask him for help again. Carter has a scheduled salary cap figure of $11.78 million for 2004, which includes a base salary of $4.5 million and a $4.5 million roster bonus. That makes him an obvious candidate for contract restructuring when the Titans begin their fight to get below the salary cap. ''I am willing to do whatever it takes, within reason,'' Carter said. ''My cap number is way too high, I know that. Obviously I don't want to take a massive pay cut when my play hasn't reflected that I need a pay cut. But at the same time I don't want to play anywhere else and certainly don't want to live anywhere else. … I am confident we'll get something done.'' Carter was added to the 2002 Pro Bowl roster as an alternate by Titans Coach Jeff Fisher, who coached the AFC team. But Carter may have had a better season in 2003, when he led all of Tennessee's defensive linemen with 79 tackles and 28 quarterback pressures. He also had 5.5 sacks. ''My personal goals were to help this team any way that I could, the best way that I could,'' Carter said. ''Also one of my goals this year was really to be a leader by example. I am really proud of my effort and I am proud of my team's effort.''
