EvoSkins
100. The urban legend Super Bowl XXII: Reporter to Redskins quarterback Doug Williams: "How long have you been a black quarterback?" Or so the story goes. What really happened was Butch John, a reporter for the Jackson (Miss.) Clarion-Ledger, jokingly asked Williams, "Doug, it's obvious you've always been a black quarterback all your life. When did it start to matter?" 68. Timmy who? Super Bowl XXII: Unknown Redskins rookie running back Timmy Smith breaks loose for a 58-yard TD run during Washington's second-quarter explosion against Denver, on the way to his record 204-yard day. 57. Great Scott! Super Bowl VII: Jake Scott's interception -- his second of the game -- in the end zone early in the fourth quarter protects Miami's 14-0 lead over Washington 50. Williams to Sanders (and a whole lot more) Super Bowl XXII: The most dominating quarter in Super Bowl history begins when Doug Williams drops a soft pass into the hands of Ricky Sanders at midfield. Sanders races for an 80-yard TD and the Redskins score 35 second-quarter points in a 42-10 rout of Denver. 43. Theismann plays defense Super Bowl XVII: With the Dolphins leading the Redskins 17-13 in the third quarter, Miami LB Kim Bokamper deflects a Joe Theismann pass and is about to corral the ball for a possible TD. But Theismann saves the day by knocking the ball loose. 33. The missing helmet Super Bowl XXVI: Star running back Thurman Thomas sets the tone by losing his helmet and missing Buffalo's first possession in its 37-24 loss to Washington. 32. Zonk rambles over Redskins Super Bowl VII: Miami's Larry Csonka bulldozers his way to a 49-yard run in which he plows over Washington's Chris Hanburger and breaks several other tackles before he is finally dragged down. 30. What were they thinking? Super Bowl XVIII: Trailing 14-3 with 12 seconds left before halftime and deep in their own territory, the Redskins try to throw a swing pass to Joe Washington. But Raiders' LB Jack Squirek intercepts Joe Theismann's pass for an easy TD. 23. Garo's goof Super Bowl VII: Dolphins' kicker Garo Yepremian tries to play quarterback after a botched FG attempt with 2:07 left and Miami leading Washington 14-0. As he tries to pass, the ball slips out of his hands and the Redskins' Mike Bass returns it for a TD. The Dolphins hold on, however, to complete their 17-0 season. 10. Marcus Allen's dazzling run Super Bowl XVIII: With the Raiders ahead of the Redskins 28-9, L.A. QB Jim Plunkett takes the snap on his own 26. He pitches to Marcus Allen, who looks like he'll run straight into a wall of Redskins defenders on the outside. But he cuts in, and goes 74 yards for a touchdown that ends the third quarter -- and, really, the game. Allen would run for 191 yards on the day, and and be named MVP as the Raiders romp, 38-9. 7. Riggins rambles Super Bowl XVII: Facing fourth-and-1 at the Miami 43 and trailing 17-13 with just over 10 minutes left, Joe Gibbs decides to go for it. Out of the I formation, the give is to John Riggins on a play called '70 chip.' Washington had run that play often throughout the season, but it surprises the Dolphins defense, which is caught out of position. A great block by Hog Rick Walker opens the door for Riggins, who breaks a tackle by Don McNeal and goes all the way for the TD. The Redskins take the lead and win 27-17. And number one goes to........... 1. Montana to Taylor Super Bowl XXIII: In their first Super Bowl in four years, the 49ers had scored just one touchdown and trail the Bengals 16-13 when they take possession at their own 8 with 3:10 left on the lock. With Joe Montana calling the plays, the Niners march down to the Cincinnati 10. Now down to their last 39 seconds, the Niners run a pass play. Halfback Roger Craig, the primary receiver, is double-covered. But John Taylor, a wide receiver, breaks loose deep in the end zone. Montana fires to Taylor for the latest game-winning TD in Super Bowl history as the 49ers win, 20-16.

Jimbo
Sadly AND Gladly enough, I saw them all and I still think Riggins is ranked 4 or 5 slots too low.

How can two kickers rank higher than the Riggins run? and I would rank stopping Dyson at the 1 yard line, #

Woofer
Originally posted by Jimbo Sadly AND Gladly enough, I saw them all and I still think Riggins is ranked 4 or 5 slots too low. For the sheer drama of it all, Riggins run should be at least number 2 on the list. I can still hear Frank's "He's gone! He's gone!" and get goose bumps just thinking about it. redman
The Riggo run was football's version of putting all of your chips on the table and winning, or hitting a home to win the World Series in the 9th inning of Game 7. We took the lead after that and won the game as a result. It's hard to top that.
dieselfan44
The Diesel's run was what ignited my love for the skins. I remember watching the game, I was eight years old. A few weeks after the win I went out and had my mom buy me a Riggins jersey. I still have that jersey today. FIRE UP THAT DIESEL!!!

GrimReefa
Thurman Thomas losing hs helmut is 33 - ha, I remember that. We he finally did find his helmet, he didn't do anything either. I think he had like 10 carries for 18 yards that day...
