"He certainly has size. But I don't know right now if he will be projected as a fullback or a tailback," said Clarence Shelmon, the Chargers' running backs coach, who has 12 years of NFL coaching experience, including four with the Dallas Cowboys where he coached Pensacola's Emmitt Smith.

"Just looking at him. He has the size. I'm not sure he has the quickness or speed to play tailback in the NFL," Shelmon said.

"Maybe in a two tight end set like (new Washington Redskins coach) Joe Gibbs likes to use, he's a tailback."

This is significant news for Jones, who was surprised Monday when asked to play both positions.

"I think (today), I'm not going to be there (at fullback)," he said. "I told 'em I could do both, because they didn't have anyone else to play (fullback). I can do it, but it's a challenge for me, because I have to learn so quick."

He doesn't have the speed. Can you say..Ron Dayne.? Next.

He was coming off a knee injury, of course his burst wasn't there. His overall speed, though, is just fine. Just give him time to rehabilitate it. The Bills took McGahee in the first, and I'm sure he wasn't running too fast at the time, why not take the risk on Jones in the 2nd? Those who saw/remember Jones two years ago saw an absolute beast, a man who took games over with his skills, in the mold of a certain 2000 yard rusher from this past season.

If we don't sign anybody, and we don't trade for Dillon, why wouldn't he be able to help this year? He was active and had a good chunk of carries all of this past year (not enough, in my opinion, Bowden was a little too cautious with him). I'm sure he's over the injury by now.

If you think Kevin Jones is the only franchise back in the draft then you are overlooking the RB who is most likely to be the first RB off the board: Steven Jackson of Oregon State. I wouldn't be surprised if he is the player Gibbs winds up drafting with the #5 pick. True he doesn't have the pure speed of Kevin Jones but he is much better in terms of size, strength and agility. He is probably most comparable to an Edgerrin James type back.

Well if we can get him in the same round we drafted S Davis cool but we cant waste the first two pick on a player that cant help this year

gonna be kind of hard to do that navyDave.

Davis was a 4th rounder. Morton is going to have to be the Davis clone since the 4th went last year for the 5th used to get him.

Ron Dayne? Take a look at the picture in this thread and you might think otherwise.

Also look at the video clip in the thread of Jones demolishing a Carolina guy. Ron Dayne? Don't think so.

Jones also flattened some safety that everyone is orgasmic over. What is that safety's name.... Oh yeah, Sean Taylor. You know, the guy that so many people have as the best safety in the NFL before he is even drafted.

Ask Taylor how good Jones can be.
