prophet
http://www.pensacolanewsjournal.com/news/012004/Sports/ST001.shtml "He certainly has size. But I don't know right now if he will be projected as a fullback or a tailback," said Clarence Shelmon, the Chargers' running backs coach, who has 12 years of NFL coaching experience, including four with the Dallas Cowboys where he coached Pensacola's Emmitt Smith. "Just looking at him. He has the size. I'm not sure he has the quickness or speed to play tailback in the NFL," Shelmon said. "Maybe in a two tight end set like (new Washington Redskins coach) Joe Gibbs likes to use, he's a tailback." This is significant news for Jones, who was surprised Monday when asked to play both positions. "I think (today), I'm not going to be there (at fullback)," he said. "I told 'em I could do both, because they didn't have anyone else to play (fullback). I can do it, but it's a challenge for me, because I have to learn so quick." inmate running the asylum
I saw Greg Jones play against Maryland and he was a terror. No one likes to tackle him because he is so punishing. But coming off knee surgery, I would be reluctant to draft him in the 1st round. In the 2nd round maybe, but he would be a steal in the 3rd as a monster sized tailback. Old Glory
He doesn't have the speed. Can you say..Ron Dayne.? Next.
Destino
Greg Jones can't catch and doesn't have break away speed. The only back in the draft that has potential to be a game break franchise back is Kevin Jones. The rest have speed issues.
SkinsNorth
I'm telling you guys, the guy to watch is Thomas Tapeh from Minnesota, the kid has great size & strength, he has also looked real good at the Sr. Bowl practices thus far.

He was coming off a knee injury, of course his burst wasn't there. His overall speed, though, is just fine. Just give him time to rehabilitate it. The Bills took McGahee in the first, and I'm sure he wasn't running too fast at the time, why not take the risk on Jones in the 2nd? Those who saw/remember Jones two years ago saw an absolute beast, a man who took games over with his skills, in the mold of a certain 2000 yard rusher from this past season. Ghost of
Jones and Dayne have completely different body types and running styles. There IS no comparison.
Neophyte
I seem to remember people knocking Stephen Davis on speed issues to when he was drafted by the Skins...
NavyDave
Well if we can get him in the same round we drafted S Davis cool but we cant waste the first two pick on a player that cant help this year
JoeSkins
If we don't sign anybody, and we don't trade for Dillon, why wouldn't he be able to help this year? He was active and had a good chunk of carries all of this past year (not enough, in my opinion, Bowden was a little too cautious with him). I'm sure he's over the injury by now. TheSkipper
Speed is overated at RB. It only helps when you get in the open field. Quickness to the line, ability to break tackles, and vision are the keys.
TheSchwartz
If you think Kevin Jones is the only franchise back in the draft then you are overlooking the RB who is most likely to be the first RB off the board: Steven Jackson of Oregon State. I wouldn't be surprised if he is the player Gibbs winds up drafting with the #5 pick. True he doesn't have the pure speed of Kevin Jones but he is much better in terms of size, strength and agility. He is probably most comparable to an Edgerrin James type back.
Montilar
Well if we can get him in the same round we drafted S Davis cool but we cant waste the first two pick on a player that cant help this year gonna be kind of hard to do that navyDave. Davis was a 4th rounder. Morton is going to have to be the Davis clone since the 4th went last year for the 5th used to get him.

Ron Dayne? Don't think so. Jones also flattened some safety that everyone is orgasmic over. What is that safety's name.... Oh yeah, Sean Taylor. You know, the guy that so many people have as the best safety in the NFL before he is even drafted. Ask Taylor how good Jones can be.

At least pretend that you've seen both of these guys play. They are like night and day. Greg Jones is a hard, powerful runner. Dayne was always a nifty quick footed big back who ran too high and too soft.

RDSKNfaithfull
Gregg Jones is a monster he killed Miami 2 years ago but they lost do to Wide right:laugh: Bowden didnt give him the carries because he started dancing this year when he runs north and south he is a first round pick everybody comming off that surgery takes a year to get back look at Edge James. Darth Tater
The most important things a running back has are vision and instinct. If you don't have those, all the quicks, speed and size will not help.
