Redskins Team Report

A solid foundation

The left side of the line should fit well into the new offense.

T Chris Samuels and G Derrick Dockery are quick and agile enough to run the counter plays the coaching staff loves. Still, Dockery will have to cut down on mental errors. On the right side, T Jon Jansen and G Randy Thomas are excellent run blockers. Jansen is powerful, has a good punch and makes excellent use of his long arms to gain leverage. Thomas perhaps was the most consistent lineman last season.

Analyze this

MLB Jeremiah Trotter's performance should be given a thorough evaluation by the new staff before a decision is made on releasing him for salary-cap reasons. Trotter does not have the speed to play in a system that is heavy in cover 2 responsibilities, but if the staff can find a way to let him play mostly on running downs, he still can be effective. FBs Bryan Johnson and Rock Cartwright are standout special teams players, which is fortunate for them because neither is a good fit for coach Joe Gibbs' one-back offense. If special teams are given the priority Gibbs says they will get, both players should be able to keep a roster spot.
