Joey T
I would love to see the FO sign Smoot to a longterm deal this offseason. If they wait until his contract year is up, it will no doubt cost a lot more respect ($$$$$$$$$$) IMHO he is key to our D. Won't cost as much as Champ, but makes more PLAYS than Champ. If we can keep Smootie and the Champ together, along with drafting the saftey from Miami, we could plug in most any lightweight LB as S/S or retain our current S/S. With expected improvements in our D/L through F/A this spring, I'm looking forward to a K/A (kick@ss) D. Any Smootie B/Ws (bandwagoners) welcome!
TheDiplomat
Hey Iv'e been here from the beggining, even though I started out as Champ24Bailey. Agreed though, we do need to lock him up long term now. How much is his salary this upcoming season and what kind of salary would you expect him to recieve from us? Sweet Sassy Molassy
You guys are absolutely right. I think Smoot is our premier DB, he's got great character, tremendous talent and he loves this team(that's the main thing). He's doing all the right things and with Gibbs there he's sure to get much better. I can't wait for him to reach his full potential, and I want him in a Redskins uniform we he does. Canadian Hog
Agreed guys, we do have to keep Freddie, but let's keep in mind that the guy isn't a number 1 corner just yet. I question if he can consistently shut down half the field if he was matched up against the top receivers. Champ Bailey is given the assignment of taking on the opposing team's number one receiver, and more often than not, Champ wins the battle. Yes, Champ struggled this year, but he's proven in the past that he's the closest things to a true "shutdown" corner in this league. Smoot isn't at that level yet in my opinion. dieselfan44
Keeping Smoot is a must. He brings a great competitive attitude and solid skills. He improves every year.
Charlie Murphaaay
Don't know if he's a premier CB. I don't think he's OUR premier CB, but I do think we should resign him quick. In the right system he can really flourish. If we spend wisely in the offseason, we should be able to use some dough to extend him THIS season. :2cents:
Stone Cold
like playing the stock market...buy high, sell low, or at least that's what you don't want to do. let's let smoot play another year under his initial contract, sign cham[, restructure samuels, let bs retire...keep your eyes on the ball folks. we need $ for fa and draft picks. we'll see how smoot performs next season before seriously contemplating multi year mega bucks...though, i think he's worth it and will get a fair deal.
