pga
Live on the John Thompson Show from the Redskin store in Tyson's Corner Mall, Doc and John are trying to figure out WHY Champ's replica jersey is on sale for $29.99 instead of $69.99 and his authentic jersey is $129 not $249..... things that make them AND US say HUMMMM.... Say it ain't so Champ.

Gamebreaker
That doesn't mean they know anything that we don't know. He's a free agent right now, and they know there is a chance he may not return the Skins. Nothing more, nothing less.

Canadian Hog
The thing that gets me is that the team is really hush-hush about the whole situation. Now I realize that we just acquired Coach Gibbs and that it takes a bit of time to get settled in. At the same time, I realize that the free agency period doesn't begin until February if I'm not mistaken. But you would think that at least we would have heard something about the club's intentions, or lack of intentions in resigning Champ. All we've heard is that there was speculation that Williams wanted some sort of assurance that Champ would be returning. Kind of strange to me. If you ask me, I think that the rejection of the offer last August, which was very fair in my mind, along with Champ's subpar play this past season soured the whole situation for the front office. As for the jerseys going on sale, isn't it common practice? I know that NFL Shop has end of season sales all the time on jerseys, regardless of player. Maybe we are reading into this too much. pga
If they were ALL on sale then I would not be reading anything into it but since it's just Champ it makes me wonder. We'll have to wait and see like usual.
pez
Actually If you look all over, lots of stores have had sales on redskins items. My wife went out and bought a bunch of shirts and stuff and she said they were havin a great sale and that almost all the stuff was gone.. This was a couple days after the Gibbs announcement. jbooma
Here is where I am a little worried. Champ is one of the biggest sellers as is Ramsey and Coles. However Champs is the only one 50% off, to me it sounds like they are emptying their stock. This is also happening at the Redskin Stores, and Champ is the only jersey that is half price. Art
This is actually VERY simple. A LOT of Champ jerseys were made. Unfortunately Champ took a down turn in popularity with the fans this year leading to a surplus of his uniforms. They are discounted to reflect that. Art but at 50% off and his is the ONLY jersey at that, sorry but that is not how it works in retail. I would understand 20% to 30% but 50%, that is a lot. By the way like the new avatar!!!!!!!!!!! What is "the man" using now?

JB, I realize you are a bit hyper when it comes to responding to things, but, think for just ONE second man. So, in your mind in retail it doesn't work a way where you discount half off for an item you have too many of. Yet, to you it seems perfectly natural that in football teams signal their direction by discounting jerseys. Are you NUTS? First, it DOES work this way in retail. You have too many of something, you slash costs. Sometimes MORE than 50 percent, but routinely 50 percent. Especially when you are in a seasonal business like the Redskins are for the most part. You can rest comfortably knowing the team isn't cutting prices to reflect the direction it intends to take with Bailey. It's a simple matter of economics. Limited stock space, more popular players. The price will double if he signs back here and gains his popularity back.

No not hyper I just heard the entire conversation on the radio and according to the Redskin person they said Champ was the #3 selling jersey this year behind Ramsey and Coles. According to him they do not have a large amount left like you suggest. Now that you know that little bit of info and Champs is the only one that is marked at 50% off, now what is you conclusion. you didnt' respond to my compliment about the avatar
mcees4life
actuall, Fred Smoot jersey is also on sale for the same prices. They r marked down cause they r last year's merchandise. I asked about it at the Redskin store in Ballston Common mall. Not to worry, Champ will be here.

TK
Brought this up awhile back http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44964&highlight=forshadowing A few other questions about this : 1) Is Rebok still doing the jerseys for next year? & 2) Since retailers have to pay taxes on their merchandise, doesn't it also make sense to slash prices on stuff that's not moving or may be overstocked on? pga
Sportstalk 980 (local radio) today said that they will franchise Champ, like has been bantered around for awhile now, and then had a quote from Gibbs saying they think very highly of #24 and just need some time to get to know him. Whatever that means.
Art
JB, We've just gotten rights to make the Arrington jersey and sell it. The team expects that to be a big seller. Champ's popularity has waned this year among the fans. Ramsey's hasn't and Coles has GROWN. In business you cut prices on things that aren't selling as well as they might or (and too I guess) you expect to replace it with something else. Next year the three jersey's you'll see EVERYWHERE will be Ramsey's, Coles' and Arrington's. Now, I realize that given your nature a rational answer to this will fall on deaf ears. You will continue to believe Snyder is cutting the prices directly to reflect the team's plans for Bailey, because, to you, that just seems right that teams signal their intentions through merchandise sales. Anyone inclined to such a belief is unlikely to care much about a sane view of things. So, believe what you will.

Heavy Jumbo
Maybe they will start using only the retro jerseys. Or, some kind of uniform change? Not very likely, but you never know.
Hogwash
There is a chance that he might not be here next year and they're trying to get as many of those jerseys out the door before people are sure about his status as a Redskin.
