milliondollarslim
probably a lot of folks think that these 2 guys may not fit in to our plans this season due to cap issues or productivity. Gibbs will do what he feels is best. i would like to see them stay and get a chance with a real DC and 2 years removed from major knee surgery. while both players have fallen short of expectations , i feel both could possibly contribute greatly this season. they are intense , tough players with good ability. fansince62
agree. trotter is already showing signs that he will assume a greater leadership role.
Long n Left
Dumping Trotter would be a burden on the salary cap for the next couple years. After next year the burden would not be nearly as great. Upshaw might be servicable, but not as an every down player. His cap number will be more managable after next year also. Looks like Gibbs & Co. may be stuck w/ both of em for next year anyway.
Chrisbob74
I agree, cutting them has no upside, we have to find replacements but would have less money to do it with. Trotter, hopefully, benifits from a more attacking style of defense and Wynn benifits from better talent on the line.
Hauss
They get another year as does Wynn.
Chief skin
I have not been crazy about the performances but, it does come down to money and dead cap space which we can't afford so the only option is to keep them around and hope they perform under this coaching staff
Heavy Jumbo
I think Trotter will show us why he was the op MLB pick-up next season.
Oldskool
Im really starting to wonder if people realize that Trotter has been playing hurt and out of scheme for the last several years? Remember how he was when he was with the Eagles and hurt his knee? It takes 2 years to recover from ACL/MCL surgery and this is the second year. Add on that he will be playing in a scheme that more closely resembles what he played in Philly and there will be plenty of Trotter banwagoners this year. Funkyalligator
I really hope that trotter comes back full strength next year and he is put in a position to make a lot of plays...
Cskin
I'm happy to help pack Upshaw's locker stuff up for him, I want his penalty creating blockhead out of Redskin Park. As for Trotter, I'm betting he becomes a force in the middle attacking the LOS and simply "acting" instead of "reacting".

Ernie5
Trotter has been my most pleasant surprise (aside from Gibbs returning) so far this off-season.
Canadian Hog
Trotter was one of the guys who attended Gibbs' press conference. I think that is saying alot about his commitment to being a leader on this team and establishing himself as a force once again. Jeremiah came on in the latter half of the year this past season. Let's see what a defensive coordinator who has a proven track record can do with Jeremiah's talent. Edwards in my opinion was way over his head and didn't play to our defensive players' strengths. I think this is something that Gregg Williams will be able to effectively do. Let's not give up entirely on Jeremiah just yet.
sippin2020
I'm going to jump on the Trotter bandwagon now. I think he will be very effective under a defensive coordinater that knows how to utilze the talent around him. And to repeat the point, this is his second year back after surgury. Posse81
Keep Trotter, dump Upshaw and his personal fouls.
sjinhan
umm i had stated before... i think we should give upshaw another year cause i think cap number isnt too big so maybe Gibbs can work on him for one year to try to channel his emotions in a positive direction... as for trotter... i think some people led by i think ASF pointed out that Trotter's cap number is gonna be decent next year but it is gonna get really high from then on... maybe we can convince him to take a paycut? or i say we need to go in another direction with MLB... i would prefer to have someone new at MLB that would be with us for a long time then someone who will prolly be a cap casualty 2 years down the road... Posse81
I like Trotter and I think we should keep him next year but here is a front office blunder that people don't talk about much: We should have re-signed Derek Smith instead of letting him go to San Francisco. He would have come much cheaper than Trotter, he was young, and we drafted him. He is quietly playing very solid for the Niners. Personally, I would have no problem with a LB corps of Arrington, Smith and Barber.
sjinhan
yeah i like trotter too and i would love him to stay... but as some people have pointed out his cap number CAP HIT 2004- $3.862M 2005- $5.662M 2006- $6.162M 2007- $7.662M 2008- $8.662M 2009- $7.662M 2010- $8.660M (note someone else found these me dont take credit ok?) those seem little high for a MLB dont you think? especially when i think our DC's strength is scheming his defenses toward his player's strength which i take it as... you dont need the best player at his position just someone who will do what he does best well... redman
I'm abivalent about Upshaw. However Trotter should flourish in this system, especially because Williams will turn him loose to shoot gaps and make plays, which is what he thrived doing in Philly. We've always put a leash on him and forced him to read and react, which is not his strength. This way, especially if we have a good, veteran WLB to play catcher in the rye, both Trotter and Lavar will be free to blow up plays in the backfield, and offenses will be hard pressed to know which of them to be more concerned about. I agree with you I think with the new coaching staff and some inspiration, that these guys could be totally different players next year.
Jay Master Jay
Trotter and Upshaw haven't live up to expectations but not too many of our players have except for Hall and Thomas. Lets see what the coaches think and get the ship headed in the right direction. With 2 good DT and a good scheme our defense show improve and stay on course since Williams probably wont be leaving after this year.
NavyDave
I wanna keep trotter however comma we may have to talk renegotiating the contract in a year or two
BG
Trotter stand to gain from Greg Williams the most as a LB. I think Lavar will be used similar to Lewis' system and he won't be too thrilled. But once we start winning, that will change.... I don't think Upshaw is worth anything. He never made plays, lacked considerable speed or even pressured the passer. His penalty inspired play will make him one of the first players cut IMHO. Gibbs, I hope, will make an example of him. That said, you could then argue that the same would be done for Betts, Flem, and a bevy of other players. Oh well:rolleyes: Another worry one could argue is how much depth that takes away from our line. I can't beat that argument.
