So this is turning into more and more stuff happening, and i figure it deserves it's own thread for discussion. If not,, merge. and if anyone has a better title, I'm all ears.
Right now airspace over northern Lake Michigan is shut down for National Defense reasons, and air force jets are on their way.

It’s wild how laid back everyone is about warplanes firing missiles at objects flying all over the country.  No one seems certain as to what they are or who they belong to.  I just read China is preparing to shoot down an object that appeared near one of their naval bases.

Bloomberg) -- China is getting ready to take down an unidentified object flying over waters near the port city of Qingdao, which is home to a major naval base for the People’s Liberation Army, Chinese news outlet The Paper reported.

When did the sky become so crowded with suspicious balloons?  And are these even balloons?  No one’s really said so.

Feels like the Chinese balloon created a panic and now we’re just going to blast every unknown object we find… and other nations are starting to think this might be a good idea also.

U.S. Jet Shoots Down Flying Object Over Canada

An American fighter jet, acting on the orders of President Biden and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, shot down another unidentified flying object on Saturday, Canadian and American officials said, in the latest installment of the drama playing out in the skies of North America.

“I ordered the take down of an unidentified object that violated Canadian airspace,” Mr. Trudeau said in a statement posted on Twitter. He said an American F-22 with the North American Aerospace Defense Command, which is operated jointly by the United States and Canada, downed the object over the Yukon Territory.

As with the object that Mr. Biden ordered shot down near Alaska on Friday, officials said they had yet to determine just what had been blasted out of the sky over the Yukon, which borders Alaska.

Mr. Trudeau said he had spoken with Mr. Biden on Saturday afternoon. “Canadian Forces will now recover and analyze the wreckage of the object,” he said in his Twitter post.

NORAD gives notice of air defense exercise around Washington, DC, set for Tuesday

The North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, will conduct an air defense exercise on Tuesday, February 14, between midnight and 2:30 a.m. EST, according to officials, around the Washington, D.C. area.

The announcement came after a fourth object over the past week was shot down on Sunday, this time over Lake Huron in Michigan.

The exercise on Tuesday will be headed by the Continental U.S. NORAD Region and aircraft will include F-16 fighter jets from NORAD, MH-65D Dolphin Helicopters from the U.S. Coast, C-12 aircraft from the U.S. Army and Cessna 182T aircraft from the Civil Air Patrol.

Officials said some flights may take place at 2,500 feet, making them visible from the ground, and if weather interferes with operations, they will commence the next day at the same time.

The agency said it conducts routine exercises that include a variety of scenarios, whether it is a hijacking, response to unknown aircraft, or airspace restriction violations, and that all exercises are controlled and planned out.
