Virginia lawmakers recently passed a bill with near-unanimous support that would require pornograpy websites to more stringently verify whether a person is 18 before allowing them access to the site. However, some say the legislation raises data privacy concerns while doing little to keep minors out of pornographic websites.

Under the bill, verifying the age of a person trying to access these sites would go a step further than simply typing in a date of birth, said patron Sen. Bill Stanley, R-Franklin, during a House subcommittee last month. Websites, he said, would have to implement more advanced methods of their choosing to verify age, such as requiring users to submit copies of government-issued identification, biometric scans or use other forms of commercial age verification software.

  • Cooked Crack changed the title to Fox8: Watching porn now requires age verification in Louisiana because of new law. Virginia joins in with additional proof of age law heading to Youngkin's desk.

This isn’t some half baked idea for a bill that will never make it out of a subcommittee…the bill passed the legislature and is headed to Sweater Vest’s desk for signature.

so now the government is tracking what kind of porn I watch.  Ain’t that great?

But we better not even mention keeping track of guns.

Because there's a constitutional right to guns, don't you know.

Not like freedom of the pre --- oops. Sorry.

I mean, not like freedom of spe --- oh wait.

Oh, I remember it's because those rights only apply to the kinds of speech and the kinds of press that the founders had in mind. Constitutional rights don't apply to new kinds of press or speech that got invented later.

I think the biggest issue I have with this is that I remember using my debit card for porn as a kid and not realizing how they would play me and keep charging me. So not only does it bring back feelings of inadequacy and shame of watching porn but being hoed financially as well. All that together makes me feel like porn + identification = bad. Not a complicated feeling but shameful enough that I just wanna be mad about it cause that's easier.

Ultimately if they make this **** harder for kids to see I think that's a good thing. I wish I could tell yall how much porn messed me up as a young adult thinking I knew what I was doing. Its almost as bad as getting laid too early. That **** will **** your view of relationships and intimacy all up. I had a chick (also watched a lot of porn) tell me once that she wanted me to **** her like a porn star regularly and if I didn't that obviously meant I didn't love her (like the guys who did, but that's another thing) so I used anything I could to give me that kind of edge so that I could prove to this crazy **** i loved her. You dont want kids doing that kinda **** man

Btw I say as a kid and i mean my late teens early 20s. But I know a few cats that started this cycle at like 14 which is just nuts to me.

I wonder how good their validation is. Here’s mine.

Yeah I really have no clue how this is going to work.

Even from a technical point of view.  I mean state government websites are some of the worst ones out there.  And now they plan on having some kind of authentication web app widget type thing (kind of like how you can use Google or Facebook to log into a bunch of sites) that they will build, and then integrate with EVERY SINGLE porn site out there?

As a software engineer myself with nearly 20 years experience, I see some HUGE technical issues with this lol.

Here's how you authenticate for Virginia viewers: Do you have a credit card?  Great!  Use that to pay for a VPN.  Congrats, you are now Croatian.

And I’ve got the government issued ID to prove it

Just pointing out. If this law just happens to never become functional?  The folks who voted for the law won't mind that result a bit.

I admire the person who steps up to implement this thinking that their technical skills can outwit the collective sex drive of all the teenage males in the state.

Back in my high school days, they blocked pretty much everything on the school computer lab internet (I think we only had access to the Sun Microsystems page).  We simply connected to a proxy server and opened up the entire internet.  Then they locked us out of proxy controls of the web browser... so we installed firefox onto flash drives and continued to proxy.  Then they blocked us from running a program called "firefox.exe", so we renamed it to "firefox2.exe".

as a frequent viewer of adult material living int he state of virginia how will this law affect me

The bill is on the governor’s desk awaiting his signature.  If he signs it you’ll need a VPN to watch vile porny.
