Lake Superior has endorsed a presidential candidate. Well, at least the X account did.

The Lake Superior account is known for its sassy takes and superiority complex. It touts being the G.L.O.A.T., or the greatest lake of all time, especially given its the only one of the five lakes that doesn't have a number in its account name (Lake Michigan's Twitter is — embarassingly — @lakemichigan13)

Of course, people chimed in with some Great Lakes humor.

In an embarrassing faux pas, however, the ex-POTUS mistakenly referred to Nicky as a “she” when introducing him to the crowd for his endorsement speech.

“Do you know Nicky? She’s hot. Where’s Nicky?” Trump said from the stage while looking off to the side for the “X” singer. A few moments later, the former president spotted the Latin star and quickly realized his mistake. “Oh, look, I’m glad he came up,” Trump said as he patted the musician’s shoulder.

Nicky, wearing a black sweatshirt and the Trump campaign’s signature red “Make America Great Again” baseball cap, then took the stage to deliver a brief statement.

“It’s an honor to meet you, Mr. President. People that come from where I come from, they don’t meet the president. So I’m lucky,” said Nicky, who moved from Massachusetts to Puerto Rico at a young age. “We need you. We need you back, right? We need you to be the president.”

Drove through Greene & Orange counties (a lot of thought went into naming them) yesterday on my way to Standardsville, VA (again, wtf?). I saw more signs up this weekend but still way below 2020. I counted about 10 orange turd signs & 7 Harris/Walz. Most of the Harris/Walz signs were in the Gordonsville downtown area but saw several in the more rural areas I drove through.

America can’t escape the shadow of its history

Two different versions of the US are on the table, but both of them are captive to the past.

f all the schisms which cleave contemporary America, few are more stark than the divide between those who consider themselves to be victims of US history and those who fear they will be casualties of its future.

Many people of colour, the large majority of whom vote Democrat, believe that the historical wrongs of enslavement and segregation have never been adequately righted. Many white American voters, the majority of whom voted Republican four years ago, fear the onset of a more “woke” and secular country in which whites find themselves in the minority by mid-century.

A prime reason why the 2024 presidential election feels so epochal is because it has become a fight between avatars of these contrasting and conflicting Americas. Kamala Harris is a black woman, whose earliest political memories come from attending civil rights rallies in the late-1960s. “Fweedom” she shouted from her pushchair, she tells us in her memoir. Donald Trump is a white nationalist who made his political name as the untitled leader of the so-called birther movement, which denied the very legitimacy of the country’s first black president, Barack Obama.

God what an ass hole.

That's exactly it.

JD Vance is that guy from high school who was just an asshole. Not the insanely smart guy who didn't relate well to people and was abrasive. Not the guy who struggled with his mental health or his home situation and was kind of a jerk because of it.

The guy who was just an asshole.

she was so close to saying the right thing here.

how about Welker to JD Vance: "In 2016, you said 'Trump makes people I care about afraid. Immigrants, Muslims' ... you are clearly doing the very thing you once called reprehensible. What does your wife and half American-Indian children think when you say this?"
