The Mississippi welfare scandal featuring Brett Favre and the good ole boys

Almost as disgusting is ESPN having to have been dragged to cover it.  While it's been discussed on some of the talking head shows (Mina Kimes, Stephen A. Smith), I don't believe it's been a headline on SportsCenter and it's been shuffled off to the side links only recently on espn.com

Anyway, Brett Favre is a piece of ****.  **** him.

Just to clarify, how often do stories like this about players come out this far after a player has retired?

I mean...the NFL can't fine him or suspend him, there's no impact on him playing or coming back because he's not, and he's already in the hall of fame.

It's absolutely a story, a big one, but is really a sports story?  I'm not really watching ESPN that much anymore, so is it too little coverage, no coverage, how much is appropriate for a sports news network?

I'm outraged on what he did, but want to make sure on same page about expectation of ESPN coverage versus coverage in general in context of items I jus brought up.  Vick was still playing and everyone knew he'd be back in the NFL at some point, direct impact on his sport, that is different.

It’s prolly safe to say that the Mississippi state government apparatus has been fleecing federal monies intended for their impoverished constituency from day one right up to now.  Crooked, evil, racist grifting is the whole state history, really.

So, Favre needs his moment here but he’s hardly scratching the surface of the GQP/MagaKlan/Dixiecrat depravity at play in this situation.

Agreed, why I agree it's not NOT a sports story, but certainly much bigger then jus a sports story.  Like federal investigations should be in order like yesterday on this one type story.

Ask yourself how much coverage did they give the OJ story?  Oh, that's right, they got an Oscar for their OJ documentary.  And what was that show called...Outside the Lines?

Yes, they should be covering it.

Too young to remember OJ....

Outside the Lines was a TV that if I remember correctly did targeted pieces.

Again, I'm not saying ESPN shouldn't cover it, I'm trying to get clarity on how much?  As much as Vick? Why, when this is clearly bigger then Vick and Farve has been done done playing?

This feels more like the responsibility traditional journalism wheelhouse, not slapstick sportscenter for minute to minute updates...

ESPN practically deified Favre his whole career.  They damned well should cover this.  He stepped in it, and his fame will help shed light on a shameful scandal that people should go to jail for.

I'm in ATL, I know all this.  To the nth degree.  Here for Favre, Vick, and my entire kitchen emptied out to watch the OJ chase.

This isn't really a sports thing, it's more of a political thing.  I watch MSNBC and it's barely getting coverage there.  I think we've got a ways to go.

Hahaha...I was in ATL watching the OJ trial verdict at a bar at lunchtime. I can't remember the name of it but our office was in the 'King Tower' near the Perimeter Mall and the restaurant was near that.
