Judging by some podcasts, two running themes with Collins.

A.  They ideally want to restructure his contract where he takes a paycut which Collins may or may not be willing to do.

B.  They plan to sign or draft a MLB.    that could leave Jamin Davis with somewhat of a hybrid role at times considering they play a lot of 2 LB sets.

I'm sure that's right. He's a tweener safety that's not good outside the box who gambles too much, but a great playmaker around the LoS, but his contract is absurd and so is his injury history. I'd love to keep him.

We currently have Collins, Jon Allen, WJ3, Fuller on decent money contracts. Got to think another deal or two will be needed for Curl and at least one of those DL. So if we are thinking about getting a free agency LB and/or FS say, that starts to really add up. Collins’ contract is a luxury than may need to go....

Campbell, Adams and Valdez-scantling. Three key free agents Rodgers has probably told them they need to retain in order for him to stick around. Will be interesting to see what news filters out about their FA receivers.

Green Bay are 48m over the cap, if they can resign the 3 free agency you have mentioned and give Rodgers 50m a year then they should just get rid of the Salary Cap altogether. We are 32m under the cap(80m better than GB, and I've read posts on here saying we can't afford to re-sign Payne to a LTD), I'm not saying I want to re-sign Payne but if the Packers can sign there free agents, and Tampa re-signed All there free-agents last year then we can keep and sign whoever we want to.

Can’t say I disagree.

Last year the Saints restructured 10 deals, released half a dozen players and got out of an even worse cap situation. They’ll be doing the same shortly.

Very easy for the Packers to give Rodgers and Adams massive long term deals with signing bonuses they can spread over the next 5 years. It not a matter of the cap, it’s whether the players really want to be in GB.

I've also noticed buddy that since Rivera has been HC, as far as I know we have not restructured any contracts, not asked any players to take a drop in salary either.

I’m now against the idea of trading players away for a QB. I’d be looking to extend both Mclaurin and Payne this offseason.

Collins has to restructure that deal. Especially if we intend to invest in a free agent LB and/or FS.

I have wondered the same, especially regarding Payne and Terry ( I gave up on Scherff as I do not thin he really wants to be back in Washington).

Regarding Payne, did he a Allen ever actually kiss and make up or is there still an issue? I don't recall ever seeing Payne saying anything after the scrum

Has Terry ever made a statement that he wants to be back in Washington?

I have heard both sides want to see JD McK back, it's a shame they didn't just get that done unless the asking price is extraordinarily high

that's just timing.  We've been in a cap situation where we didn't need to and had no players that needed to

That source isn’t always reliable they just typically repeat other sources.

But if Campbell resigns it plays into what London Fletcher said recently which is there aren’t a lot of good middle linebackers in the league who can both cover and stop the run and the teams that have them these days are good at holding on to them.

Keim's podcast, doubles down on the post above.  They want Collins back but at a discount from his current cap number.  They are talking to McCain and might work out a deal before FA.  And he doubles down that they really really really want a MLB.  They like Holcomb but outside, not inside.

Unfortunately its not the greatest fa class to be in need of a MLB.

Over the years, I've grown more and more convinced that salary cap problems are mostly overblown. Aside from large amounts of dead cap from a bad deal or a penalty that shuts out of some of the cap, a simply competent FO should be able to wheel and deal their way around anything. Who's the last player we can say that was a truly a cap casualty? Jamison Crowder? Brandon Scherff might be arguable for the next one, but even if we throw out the injury concerns and call it a cap loss, that's our first in 4 years.

If the Giants are forced to cut Blake Martinez; he's someone I'd love to have.

The team screwed up not signing him 2 years ago. Would have been a nice upgrade over Bostic.

Now he is coming back from an ACL, I feel they can probably do better than him in FA or the draft this year

He tore the ACL in September so should be good for next year.   I'm not seeing too many other options.
