Mickalino
Finally the Canes play a good team, and not only did they get by in a squeaker, but it took some true luck. That was the easiest drop of a pass I ever saw, when Tech dropped the 2-point conversion that would have tied the game, and probably sent it into OT. A PERFECTLY thrown pass, thrown SOFT AS CHARMIN, to a WIDE-OPEN man, Hits him in the numbers, and he drops it. Two seconds later, Beamer drops to the turf as well, in disbelief. TennesseeCarl
That drop probably tore some hearts out in Oregon and Texas as well. Miami's the only undefeated team aside from BYU and they deserve to get one ticket to the Big One. Great effort from Tech.
Larry
I think the folks in Texas are too busy cheering for another orange-and-white team. Big-12's back in the race, guys.
OrangeSkin
Was it really that close? I had to go a pancake dinner and a Christmas parade, so I had to turn the game off when Tech was down 23-10. I didn't think they'd come back. That's too bad that they couldn't win it. Miami ripped the hearts out my Syracuse team by beating us 59-0...although we did beat Tech. Look on the bright side. Florida's pass game against Miami's secondary should be one hell of a matchup.
OrangeSkin
I take that back. I just found out that Florida lost to Tennessee.
Om
Can't tell you how tough it was to watch the VT / Miami finish yesterday. Went into it realistically just hoping we'd put up a fight and make Miami sweat. Was reminded over and over during the course of the game why our lack of a big-time QB had always meant to me that this VT team was not a legitimate BCS contender. Then, when it became apparent late that we had a real chance to pull off the monster upset, I surrendered to the moment and bled maroon. When Green blocks the punt and we return it for the TD, I jump up screaming and literally smash my hands against the ceiling, picking up a nice scrape on my knuckles from the popcorn paint. When poor Wolford drops the conversion pass, I collapse to nurse my wounds, both physical and emotional. Then, when Noel throws yet another incomprensibly bad INT ... well, suffice it to say it hurts. My hand smarts this morning. I suspect it will continue to smart until January 1, when we take out FSU. My heart, however, feels a whole lot better today. Considering that was as good and as hot a Miami team as we've seen in a long, long time ... and we were severely undermanned at the most critical position on the field ... my Hokies did me proud yesterday. Brave
Oh the irony ... Om, one of the more eloquent speakers (well, writers) and civil members of this board is the one scraping his knuckles. I guess we won't count it since it was on the ceiling and not the floor.
