indyskinsfan
The NHL standings remarkably shows that NO one has a losing record??? What an unusual situation. Now the "point" system comes more into focus. I see this happening in the NBA in the future.
redman
"Parity" Pete Rozelle was evidently a hockey fan. ------------------ "Loosen up, Sandy baby. You're just too damn tight!" - John Riggins to Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor ---------------------- "I fear we've awakened a sleeping giant, and filled him with a terrible resolve." - Japanese Imperial Admiral Yamamoto, after hearing that the Japanese declaration of war failed to reach the U.S. government before the attack upon Pearl Harbor
Brave
Indy - What standings are you looking at? I see plenty of losing teams. Were you referring to a specific division? The Eastern Atlantic is CLOSE to your description, but my paper shows New Jersey at 9-10-2. It also has: Buffalo 11-13-2 Florida 6-14-2 Atlanta 5-15-2 Nashville 9-13-3 Columbus 7-13-5 Vancouver 11-14-3 Las Angeles 7-12-3 Anaheim 7-15-

Guest fuji869
I know they spanked Carolina last night, Hopefully they will do it again on Sunday. Sunday will be a big sports day for me, the Caps and the Hurricane early and the Cowboys and Redskins late. THANK GOD for Direct T.V.’s NHL Center Ice Package and NFL Sunday Ticket. With the Internet and my Satellite Dish I don’t need to live in the D.C. Area to follow my Beloved Capital Area Teams!
OrangeSkin
What's up with the NHL? I don't follow it very much, and now I'm as confused as ever about it. How can a team be 13-7-3-1? What does the 1 mean? Ahhh! The NHL is confusing!

You get two points for a win, one for a tie and one for an OT loss. Thus a team that is 13-7-3-1 has 30 points toward the championship playoffs. Hope this make sense
indyskinsfan
ARGGGHHH!!!! Dam* those Yahoo cronies!!!!! It must have been a practical joke or misalignment with the record standings of the NHL teams!!! I made myself into an a**! Don't get any ideas up there Blade and Art Ok for now on, I will, "triple" check these kind of things so that won't happen again. Jeez, I got to check it that like I do database stats. Thanks for the heads up, Brave!
OrangeSkin
Yeah, that makes some sense Joey. I miss the days when a team had a win, a loss, or a tie. What's next? Points for effort?
Brave
"What's next? Points for effort?" - OrangeSkin There's no way around it, that's exactly what getting a point for an OT loss is. I think the reasoning was that teams were playing too conservative in the OTs so as not to lose the point they would get for a tie. The OTs were becoming pointless (literally.) This way, both teams can play aggressive and they can only GAIN a point ... can't lose one. Still, getting points for losing doesn't seem quite right.
