Dems are taking a bath in 2022 unless some real aggressive legislation gets passed

I think the bloodbath will happen anyway; unless things are booming on Election Day. The pandemic is over and the economy is soaring.

Remember the Dems didn’t win much. Biden is only president because people were voting against Trump. If this were a Rubio or Bush running for re-election; they probably win because they would’ve fought the pandemic like normal people and also Bernie probably would’ve been the nominee. They won Georgia because of Trump.

Midterms usually are bad for the incumbents party and Dems have a poor history with midterms when they control the White House.

Right now I would say the gop wins back the house, win back some of the governorships they lost in 18 and wins Back the senate. Yes, the senate map favors the Dems but so did 2020 and we saw what happened.

The Dems have 2 years to pass whatever they want; so just do it. The gop doesn’t really want to negotiate. They will do the same thing that they did with Obama. Get the Dems to mold a bill to their liking and then not vote for it anyway.  Listen to what they say buy then just pass the bill you want.

Remember, Joe Manchin can leave anytime he wants. So, keep him by meeting with the gop but then meet with him and explain to him why the Dems must go the reconciliation route.

Why Senate Democrats may struggle in 2022

he retirement announcement this week from Sen. Rob Portman is a sign that even as we just finished one election, another one is right around the corner. Democrats seemed to be pleased that the Ohio Republican is stepping aside because beating an incumbent senator is hard.

Still, I wouldn't be jumping too much for joy if I were the Democrats.

To be clear, It's not that the map is great for Republicans -- and it's still very, very early. But history suggests Democrats have their work cut out for them if they want to maintain or expand their majority of 50 seats (with Vice President Kamala Harris breaking the ties).

The simple fact is that while there are exceptions (e.g. 2018), midterms tend to be tough for Senate candidates of the party controlling the White House.

Now, there is some good news for Democrats. Of the 14 seats Democrats need to defend, the only seat without an elected incumbent running so far is in California with appointed Sen. Alex Padilla. In midterms since 1982, the opposition party has never picked up a seat that leaned as much against the opposition party (compared to the country as a whole) in the prior presidential election.

Further, there are no Democratic elected incumbents running in states President Joe Biden lost. Back in 2018, there were 10 seats Democrats had to defend in states 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton lost.

The problem for the Democrats becomes apparent by comparing what looks like the best three pickup opportunities for Democrats to the best three for Republicans.

The bad news for Democrats is that three of the Democratic seats that are up in 2022 are in states where Biden underperformed his national margin (Arizona, Georgia and Nevada).

White House party incumbents running in states where their party underperformed nationally in the previous presidential election have had decent, but not great, success in midterms. The incumbent party is 30 for 41 (73%) in these seats since 1982.

This 73% may seem impressive, but it's really not.

Take a look at what are probably Democrats' best pickup opportunities. These are in the three battleground states where Republican senators have announced their retirements: North Carolina, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Biden underperformed his national margin by 3 points or more in all of these states in 2020.

The opposition party has won 31 out of 34 (91%) of open seats since 1982 in which the president underperformed his national margin in the previous presidential election.

Progressive PAC kick-starts search for challengers to Manchin, Sinema

Though both aren't up for reelection until 2024; I don't see them being successful at least in WV.  Progressives in the AOC/Bernie mold won't win in WV; maybe in AZ with Hispanics being the difference.

Biden is going to have to do a Hell of a job to win these people over to push out Manchin and Sinema. However, if he does, whats to stop Manchin and Sinema from reaping the rewards of success as well?

'She's too extreme.' Ivanka is urging Donald to cut ties with Marjorie Taylor Greene fearing Jewish community will hold it against her and jeopardize her political ambitions in her new Sunshine State home

Ivanka Trump has her own political agenda - and it does not include Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Florida's newest resident is setting her sights on challenging Marco Rubio in the 2022 Senate race, sources say, and she is concerned that Donald's support of the controversial congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene could adversely affect her plans.

Taylor Greene has expressed her belief in the QAnon conspiracy theory which is rich in anti-Semitism. She also signed an online posting in 2018 that accused Jewish billionaire George Soros and the Rothschild family of being involved in the conspiracy, which alleges that powerful figures run an international pedophile ring and influence world policy.

'Ivanka  is worried that people, including those in the Jewish community will automatically assume that she approves of Marjorie because of her dad's affiliation with her,' a Trump insider tells DailyMail.com.

'Donald just loves Marjorie and makes no secret about it. He's called her a rising star and now Marjorie boasts that she is the female version of Trump.

'This just drives Ivanka nuts and she thinks they should all cut ties with her and her and her bizarro ideas.

'She won't say it on a loud speaker, but Ivanka does not want to be associated with Marjorie. She's too extreme. Ivanka is all about Ivanka and preserving her reputation.

Iowa Republican announces Senate bid with Grassley's 2022 plans unclear

Iowa Republican state Sen. Jim Carlin launched his campaign to replace Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), whose plans for the 2022 election remain unclear.

Carlin, a trial lawyer and Army veteran, became the first candidate from either party to announce his bid for the seat, without waiting for Grassley, 87, to make a decision about his future in the Senate, the Des Moines Register reported.

"I appreciate (Grassley's) service, as anybody does," Carlin told the newspaper. "But I didn't get in the race to drop out."

The 54-year-old presented himself as an ally to former President Trump during his first speech and targeted “the political class” for not looking into and holding hearings on the unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud.

"Right now, we face mammoth challenges from China, the disintegration of families, the decline of rural Iowa and the threat to free speech from big tech monopolies," he said, according to the Register. "... I see some of these things as an assault on our freedom."

Grassley is in his seventh term as senator and will turn 89 in 2022 – the year Iowa will elect a senator for a six-year term. He told reporters earlier this month that a decision about whether he’d run for reelection is still “several weeks off.”

Ivanka Trump will not run against Marco Rubio for one of Florida’s Senate seats.

Ivanka Trump will not run for the U.S. Senate from Florida in 2022, according to people close to her as well as an aide to Senator Marco Rubio, who holds the seat.

Since the final days of former President Trump’s term in office, speculation has been growing that Ms. Trump, his eldest daughter, might try to run for statewide office in Florida, where she and her family have moved permanently. Such a bid would involve a primary challenge to a sitting Republican senator, Mr. Rubio, and a competitive general election.

“Marco did speak with Ivanka a few weeks ago,” said Nick Iacovella, a spokesman for Mr. Rubio. “Ivanka offered her support for Marco’s re-election. They had a great talk.”

A person close to Ms. Trump also confirmed the conversation, and said that a Senate run was never something she was seriously considering.

State GOP lawmakers propose flurry of voting restrictions to placate Trump supporters, spurring fears of a backlash

GOP state lawmakers across the country have proposed a flurry of voting restrictions that they say are needed to restore confidence in U.S. elections, an effort intended to placate supporters of former president Donald Trump who believe his false claims that the 2020 outcome was rigged.

But the effort is dividing Republicans, some of whom are warning that it will tar the GOP as the party of voter suppression and give Democrats ammunition to mobilize their supporters ahead of the 2022 midterms.

The proposals include measures that would curtail eligibility to vote by mail and prohibit the use of ballot drop boxes. One bill in Georgia would block early voting on Sundays, which critics quickly labeled a flagrant attempt to thwart Souls to the Polls, the Democratic turnout effort that targets Black churchgoers on the final Sunday before an election.

States where such legislation is under consideration also include Arizona, Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Proponents say the actions are necessary because large numbers of voters believe Trump’s false assertions that President Biden won the 2020 election through widespread fraud.

Fundraising dinner for Utah Sen. Mike Lee at Mar-a-Lago will cost $10,600 per couple

Republican Utah Sen. Mike Lee is up for reelection in 2022, but that's not stopping him from raising money for that campaign now. And Lee plans to raise that money at an exclusive and pricey fundraiser at former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. That's all according to an invitation to the event, a photo of which was first tweeted by Politico.

The invitation says Lee will be joined by two controversial guests, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) at the event Saturday, which is slated to begin at 7 p.m. EDT.

The GOP must understand that as long as they help keep Trump around and relevant as a political figure, the more their jobs become merely placating and kissing the ring.  I suppose they already know this, but are fine with it, if it brings along the cultists at the ballot box.

GOP firebrand U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks enters Alabama Senate race

U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks, a conservative firebrand and staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump who has come under fire for remarks he made preceding the attack on the U.S. Capitol, joined the Alabama GOP primary field on Monday to replace Sen. Richard Shelby.

The north Alabama Republican announced his entry into the race at an event with former Trump adviser Stephen Miller. He joins former Trump ambassador Lynda Blanchard in a Republican primary field that is expected to attract a number of other hopefuls.

Brooks, 66, has come under fire for telling the rally that preceded the Capitol riot that it was time to “start taking down names and kicking ass.” Brooks said the phrase was intended to fire up the crowd for the next election cycle and is being misconstrued as advocating the violence that followed.
