Those of you wondering...

 

Burrow fumbled. Curl recovered in the end zone and took it out. He then fumbled back into the end zone.

 

Because we had possession of the ball and took it out of the end zone, our recovery IN the end zone and subsequent being downed in the end zone results in a safety.

 

However, Cincy held. Therefore, to avoid taking a 2 pt conversion we accepted the penalty.

 

Cincy can now kick the field goal, which is worth more, but they don't get the ball as they would on a safety.

Did he actually recover it?  Not sure he ever had control.  Should be a touchback, IMO.  Unless he clearly had the ball.

Still don't get it - does a safety against the skins mean two points for Cincy and the skins punt it?  I don't recall ever seeing that

It doesn't look like anyone ever had possession, the ball was knocked out of the endzone and then back into the endzone again, crazy play but it doesnt seem like possession was ever established.

No, he was the ball carrier at that point.

 

That would have been a safety AGAINST US for those confused.  That's why we didn't take the safety.

It does. He was running with the ball and it got knocked back into the end zone.

Yeah, everyone was giving Chase props but Haskins was just standing there like "IDGAF" and Chase walked past DH and just shoulder bumped and walked right through him without even looking at him.

So because the player took the ball out of the endzone and fumbled in back into the endzone that would mean a safety on our end.  Got it...pretty much encapsulates this football organization.
