China
Manchin pushes to delay tax credits for electric vehicles Ratcheting up his criticism, Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin on Wednesday moved to delay new tax credits for electric vehicles, a key feature of President Joe Biden's landmark climate law. Manchin said guidelines issued by the Treasury Department allow manufacturers in Europe and other countries to bypass requirements that significant portions of EV batteries be produced in North America. The climate law, officially known as the Inflation Reduction Act, “is first and foremost an energy security bill,” Manchin said, adding that the EV tax credits were supposed "to grow domestic manufacturing and reduce our reliance on foreign supply chains for the critical minerals needed to produce EV batteries.'' Manchin’s bid to delay the tax credits surfaced as Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and White House climate adviser Ali Zaidi visited the Washington, D.C., Auto Show on Wednesday to highlight the administration’s efforts to boost electric vehicles and related infrastructure. EV sales have tripled since Biden, a Democrat, took office two years ago, Granholm said. There are now more than 2 million EVs and 100,000 chargers on U.S. roadways, with more than $100 billion invested or pledged for EVs and their supply chains, including batteries, she said. China
Joe Manchin Refuses to Answer if He Still Identifies as a Democrat Joe Manchin isn’t into labels, apparently. At least not political ones. The West Virginia Senator went on a Fox News media run Sunday, where he refused to answer directly if he identifies as a member of the Democratic Party. “I identify as an American,” Manchin said when asked repeatedly by host Maria Bartiromo if he still considered himself a Democrat. “I’m an American through and through.” Manchin faces an extremely uphill battle in 2024 as a Democrat elected in a state that voted for Trump by 39 points in 2020. He hasn’t yet said if he’ll run again, but the incumbent does serve as one of the Democrats’ best chances to keep their slim Senate majority. GhostofSparta
Manchin is what he is: about the only Democrat that can be elected in a place like WV. And if Dems want to keep a majority, they need a handful of conservative Dems like him. It's why someone like Sinema infuriates me WAY more than Manchin ever has. She was supposedly a progressive who surrendered to corporate interests extremely quickly. He was exactly what he portrayed himself as: a conservative Democrat from a very VERY red state. Be upset with the **** he does, sure. I'm all for that. But don't pretend that NY/CA Dem is going to win a state-wide race somewhere like WV. 1 1

I think his time is running out in WV and he'll lose to someone running on stolen elections next time around. Nobody will feel bad for Joe. He made a lot of money being a Senator.

88Comrade2000 Posted yesterday at 04:45 PM Share Posted yesterday at 04:45 PM She isn’t winning re-election either as a Dem or independent. There’s a chance a three way race with her and a Dem and a repub, tips the race to the gop. Either way, she’s not getting re-elected. She will lose a Democratic primary and will lose a 3 way general election race.
