1974 and 1989 (which was DAL's only win and kept us out of the playoffs).  You always want to beat Dallas, period.  You kids out there need to put on your VR goggles and experience what Dallas Week was like in the 70's.  Twice a year, schools in Virginia were closed and people roamed Dulles airport with whacking sticks looking for snakes flying in from Texas.  (Oilers fans got a break since they were on our side.)  Hell, the Dallas team plane had to fly in at night with an Air Force escort just to avoid a battery of the most accurate anti-aircraft slingshots prisoners at Lorton could make earning 3 cents an hour.  Texas Reps and Senators went into the witness protection program.  Dallas Week was *intense*.

I don't care what the fargin' repercussions are.  I've been a diehard fan since 1975 and I'll never, ever not want to beat Dallas.

It's one of those to each their own drills.  I went to Dallas at the end of the 2015 season and watched us beat them in their stadium.  I had a lot of fun at that time.  I rubbed it into one of my Cowboy friend fans.  His response was I am glad you guys won and he was worried for a while in that game because he wanted that top 5 pick.  Who did Dallas get in that draft?  E. Elliot.  So we had a nice day but Dallas has pretty much owned us afterwards.

I used to care about wins in a lost season.  I don't anymore.  I want a QB.  I've been a rabid fan since the early 80s.  It's been a dark run once Gibbs stepped down the first time.  And the lack of a QB has been front and center of those dark years.  I want it to end versus relive the Colt McCoy MNF victory or whatever occasional success we've had against them or anyone else.  Dallas has sadly been a lot more relevant than we have.

Having said that, I respect any fan's take on this.  I get it.  We should rock with whatever makes us happy and drives us.  There IMO are no right or wrong answers.  Just explaining my perspective.   so wanting to beat Dallas, I totally get.  I hate that team, too.

Yeah I had no issue losing to Philly and New York to end the year last year and clinch the #2 pick. If the results were reversed Philly could have had CD Lamb(even though he went to a division rival anyway) and we could have seen Young terrorize us for the next decade in the Big Blue.

Think. Long. Term.

Indy is a shining example of how you can build a team and use a vet until a viable rookie falls to you without tanking. I’m rooting hard for them to succeed. They are extremely young across the board on defense, and are building up the offense behind a terrific line. There is nothing saying we can’t do the same.

There is no way you could watch Mahomes and Carr dueling on SNF last night and think Kyle Allen or Alex Smith are anywhere near acceptable solutions. We NEED a franchise-caliber QB, whether thru the draft or FA. I believe Ron and Kyle understand this.

This is what makes me beat my head against the wall when we have these idiots calling into The Flag****, with "win the division...once we're in anything can happen!" No. This team sucks. It took Ryan Finley being worse than Dwayne Haskins to beat the Bengals. Stop.

Well, we are likely out of position for the top 3 QBs as it is. And we can’t afford to pay a big time vet and plug holes.

So... I’m prepared for the Alex and Kyle show in 2021. I don’t love it, but it’s better than Beck and Grossman.

It's amazing that 3-4 wins is going to pick outside the top-5. Man, this year sucks.

We are 1 game out of the 15th pick...wow.

So the way I see it--we're in good position for Zach Wilson in this scenario. Cincy will take Sewell. I highly doubt Dallas goes QB, most likely defense--given how unbelievably ****ty they are there.

The problematic teams are in the 9-12 range. All of which would take a QB.

I am not convinced we are out of this.  I was mentally braced for beating Cincy.  But i wonder if we win after that again.    If we lose against Dallas this Thursday I got doubts we win another.

Yup. After Dallas we are not going to win the 3 after that. Might even lose to the Panthers and close the season with a lose to the Eagles. That would be ideal and will have the #4 pick and even if the Bangles don't win another game they are not going QB anyways.

Don't see the Jets or the Jags winning another game.

Good news is, we never win there on Thanksgiving. 9ers might be winnable, Carolina isn't good, and there's the Philly-asco.

Kyle Shanny I'd think would have his troops ready and its in SF.  McCaffrey is the prototype nightmare RB for this defense -- assuming he's healthy then.  Eagles in Philly bent on revenge from earlier in the season and might be playing for the division?

To beat the 2-6-1 Bengals, at that.

Dallas would trade down with Atlanta just so we wouldn't get Wilson lol.

I'm never mad at someone for wanting to win games rather than lose out, that is just the only way some people know to be fans and that is more than acceptable. to each their own.

But who is looking at this squad and thinking we have any hope of making a run? You'd need the luck of the Gods just not to be blown out by a playoff caliber team, let alone be in the game.

Unless Covid forces every opponent to forfeit and we * our way thru the playoffs, its just not gonna happen.

Its like hearing Dallas fans scream Super Bowl every year. It makes you feel dumber for hearing it.

I want to see us win the division and get to the playoffs just so there has a possibility of a story-book ending for Alex Smith. I’ve never liked his game, but I’ve always respected the man. Alex would have the entire world behind him come playoff time. It’s the greatest sports story of all time.

Right. If we cant get one of the top three guys then I think our best play is to take the best Oline available, if hes worth it, or take the best defensive player available. Alex and Kyle are more than good enough to take the hits while we build the rest of the squad.

Overall, not being as nuanced at all as some of yall in here.....though I plan to hang out in this thread a bit this season and learn some shizz, my draft stratagem at the moment is to:

  • draft on Oline
  • draft on defense
  • pick a QB in the 3-5 range every year unless there is a guy you like AND dont have to sell the farm for
  • get lucky

Again, I expect for this view to grow this season as I stalk yall in here.

What happens in Washington while the rookie QB is playing okay and the team is losing? What has our fanbase and media shown you the past 20 years? Burrow knows that Cincinnati is behind him. That's not how our fanbase rocks. We will attack you until you prove us wrong. When we aren't winning, we are attacking Chase Young(our best young player), our DL(the strength of our team), and even drafting HOF LTs(one of the few things we are good at) in Washington. We eat our own!! Unless the QB shows unquestionable superstar ability, I've seen it enough to know it's a set up.

You make a lot of sense.  As a Celtics fan, I've listened to the fans and even the local media eat its own.  It's one of the reasons why the best free agents rarely come to Boston and is one of the reasons why Gordon Hayward opted out of a $34 million dollar contract.  It's true that a 4-year $120 million dollar contract from the Hornets is quite the incentive to leave.  But the daily attacks made it much more easy to do so.

Like Celtics fans, Redskins fans will eat their own.  Chase Young being the latest example.   I hope he stays off social media, because a lot of Team fans are killing him.

On the subject of which is more important a franchise QB or a franchise LT, I'll take the QB every single time.  Great QBs transform teams and generate hope like no other position in football.  However, if the goal is to be a playoff-level "offense" for at least a decade, having both would be a great start.

You think 3 QBs are going in the top 5?  Or you think this draft order won't hold?

The funny thing is, if they make improvements elsewhere, we'll probably be in a worse position to get a QB the following year.

Depends who is picking in the top 5. The Bengals and Chargers absolutely won't go QB. If the Dolphins are picking top 5(from the Texans)they won't either.

I don't see the Cowboys picking a QB either. Most likely they franchise Dak again or come to some kind of long term deal. They need Sewell or D help.

The Falcons and Lions are wild cards but I think both teams have a bit too much talent to finish in the top 5.

I think 3 QBs are going top 5, could be top 3 depending.

I think we win a game or two more.

Draft position of just some current starting QBs:

Drew Brees - 32nd pick

Aaron Rodgers - 24th pick

Patrick Mahomes - 10th pick

Russell Wilson - 75th pick

DeShaun Watson - 12th pick

Ben Roethlisberger - 11th pick

Dak Prescot - 135th pick

Derek Carr - 36th pick

Lamar Jackson - 32nd pick

Finding a good QB is hard, but we don't have to be drafting 1, 2nd, or even top 5 to be able to find one. So far I am very happy with Kyle Smith and I think he has shown that he could be a guy that can find one outside the top 5.
