I find these pick-ups interesting. If you look ahead........

If the same rules are used, you can only use one player from the injured reserve list on the expansion draft list. (My candidate is Greer of course.)

Since signing someone from a team's practice squad means they have to be on the roster, they should be able to be used as expansion draft fodder.

Could this be a move done using that reasoning?

With Mitchell and alexander not able to help the team much the last two games, it gives the skins two probably worthless bodies for the expansion draft. And it might help the skins in signing Mitchell and alexander as their bargaining power could be weakened coming off an injury.

Guest The Angry Buddha

I don't know what to make of Lemar Marshall. He's listed as a LB but is only 208 pounds. Must mean he's a HITTER.

Angry Buddha (Oh, I see you're angry again biggrin.gif ),

I think there is a grooming for a "Safety" here, if the speed is with him.

OK, So I take back what I said about Marty being dumb, because this is a brilliant move, even if for Special Teams.

As a Safety, that would be exactly right, as long as he has speed. Another intangible could be his ability cover receivers.

That would "eliminate" the need to hunt and peck for a safety immediately and free up cap room for other positions.

Hmmm. Maybe he is thinking of Gonzalez?????

I think if McCants has a strong offseason with the team and working out hard everyday at the park. Doing all his film work, doing everything he can for a chance...plus working hard for some special teams work. I think he'll be here next year as a 4th WR, maybe a 3rd since Lockett and Westbroken are both FA's.

Is Skaggs fast?

"It wasn’t long before the Washington Redskins came calling. The franchise was impressed with Skaggs’ natural abilities, especially his 4.35 40-yard dash."

If I remember he is the guy in the preseason game(NE) that came from nowhere and almost caught the kickoff return for a TD. I have wanted to see him on the team ever since the first time I saw him in camp, someone had tore off his jersey and he was wearing one with no number on it. I would love to see this kid make it.

All of the Redskins backup receivers including Skaggs have good size at 6'2 or better and good speed (4.5 and under).

I really don't understand why we haven't seen some of these other players for even a few downs along the way this season.

Thompson caught the one touchdown off the trick option but that is about it.

This is especially surprising considering the team's refusal to utilize Westbrook in the offense.

These guys may be raw but the way they are using Michael as a deep decoy, couldn't Skaggs or Thompson have gotten some reps running posts for the team?

On a 6-8 football team you would think the staff and front office are looking under every rock for available talent.

Bulldog, that's one reason I can't wait to see Westbrook gone. He's not the starter based on merit. He's still a starter simply based on seniority and ability. Certainly not because of production.

Westbrook is somewhat of a victim of Banks' inability to see the field. But that doesn't change the fact that Westbrook STILL doesn't run good routes and still drops the ball. I can live with a rookie's drops. I can't live with an 8-year vet dropping passes.

Westbrook is speedy, but he is not the burner some seem to think he is, either. He's not particularly adept at breaking down single coverage, and I've seen him get caught from behind several times over his career. Most of his big plays downfield were either because of broken coverages (like against the Giants this year) or because the play calling was specifically setting up the big play. (I have to admit that Norv Turner was adept at setting up those kinds of passes.)

I honestly believe that Gardner, Skaggs, McCants, and even Thompson are capable of making any plays that Westbrook can. They just need the opportunity.
