Skins draft board

It is a slow day isn't it? List subject to change depending on possible free agent signings between now and the draft? I like the postitional needs part. I think the OL statement could be very true. Though I think you may find some resistance to that here. Board looks great Budda.

[ March 31, 2002, 11:31 AM: Message edited by: Park City Skins ]

very nice......prediction: we will sign rod jones before the draft eliminating any consiideration of a guard for 1st round. corey harris will be our safety next season.

- we will draft harrington if he falls to 18

otherwise

- not much noise on DT from the braintrust, makes me think they have a post Jun1 candidate in mind

- shane matthews is inbound (eventually)

- 1st round will be gamebreaker WR if available or DE (Edwards)

- second round is where things get interesting: it will be a lineman is all i will venture to guess (although, there has been no mention of mlb and i could very well see someone like mercada out of UNC)

[ March 31, 2002, 11:45 AM: Message edited by: fansince62 ]

after reviewing the ratings on Kalimba Edwards, to me there are just too many questions about his ability to transition to DE or OLB in the NFL.

when you see draft descriptions that talk of a player being a possible 'tweener' then to me that is a red flag about taking them in the first round.

Edwards may well turn out to make the grade at DE despite the comments about him being soft against the run and undersized, etc......

But those risks usually take an outstanding college player down into the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the draft.

Now, I don't anticipate Edwards being on the board that long.

But I would not consider taking ANY player in the top 20 or so picks where there are significant questions about him GOING IN.

Rookies, even those that are blue chippers like Arrington have transition problems.

Those that don't project well to their pro position based on height, weight, speed, etc....are likely to have even greater such problems and take longer to find their niche.

But if that scenario happened, it wouldn't be the end of the world to have to select him with our 1st rounder.

His speed is what makes the difference.

But for every Jevon Kearse, you could name a hundred tweeners who couldn't play in the NFL. The Falcons and Dolphins wasted many of their picks in the 80's on tweeners, looking for a great pass rusher.

Looks okay, but to suggest that Ed Reed would be available in the fourth round is pretty ridiculous. He'll be gone by the time the Redskins pick in the second round probably. I wouldn't even be upset if they took him in the first round.

I like Kalimba Edwards though, 6'5" 265 is not that small for a DE. Marco Coleman who is an outstanding run stopping DE only ways 5 extra pounds and is two inches shorter than Edwards. Edwards also does have the frame to add more weight. He played DE very well until his senior year of college when he switched to LB because of the teams lack of LB talent.

I wouldn't take a safety before the 4th round, with the exception of Roy Williams if he were there at #18. But if Ed Reed were caught standing next to a bong the night before the draft and fell to the 4th round, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

I think he'll go late first or early second. Hence, the asterisk next to his name.

Edwards sounds like he's cut from the Kearse mold, definitely. And as all know, "The Freak" has all but disappeared. Edwards is really skinny, he sounds more like a basketball player. He's 6'5 and 251, whereas Freeney is 6'1 and 247. I just have a bad feeling about Edwards.
