Die Hard
At the recommendation of my fellow Extreme staffers, I'd like to take this opportunity to announce that ExtremeSkins will undergo a major facelift in just over a week. The tentative release date is Monday, April 8, 2002.

We may experience a bit of down time but we're optimistic it will be minimal; a couple of hours at the most.

Stay tuned for details.

[ March 30, 2002, 10:20 PM: Message edited by: Die Hard ]
PCS
Let me get this straight. The draft and a major site facelift all in one week?

Art
Just to add a bit. The facelift Die Hard is talking about is being done because we've gotten so large and carry so much traffic, we are bursting the seams of the software we use to run the board. Essentially we're going to a much more robust version of the software that will have relatively the same look and feel of this one, but will have even more bells and whistles while keeping access and load times crisp.

This is good stuff Die Hard has found to work with. He'll even be instituting the long awaited member rankings which have been disabled on this forum for some odd political reason only known to Die Hard and his closest associates . Zen-like Todd
What are these member rankings of which you speak, and how can I curry favor with those in charge of ranking?
Die Hard
TCO - The member rankings are given by your peers. The reason why this feature is presently disable is many fold: (1) The opportunity for people to misuse the feature. People can lowball members as a joke and potentially discredit the reputation and value of other posters. (2) Rankings are subjective. People can appreciate the value of other members without having to quantify it. I personally don't like the idea of members judging other members. (3) Misrepresentation. People might feel inhibited to give others accurate readings and give everybody a 5-star rating. Likewise they can give them 1-star ratings. That would totally devalue the ranking system.

I believe this was a not-so-subtle attempt by Art to sway us to change our minds What Art doesn't know is... while the new software has limitless functionality... much to his chagrin it doesn't have member ratings. And a hack for it hasn't been developed yet

Kevin West
Bananas with rankings! It's an ego thing we can do without. Opinions expressed on this board should be judged on the merit of content, not the number of posts, nor the space taken, nor links that would distract us.
