No, lots and lots of money donated, millions, announced with the official name change, will help with that.

None of it will come from Wise, Florio, Feinstein etc.

Which brings me back to where I stand. I do think Native Americans deserve a platform on this issue and if they find the name a burden, an insult, a slur then by all means change it, but it should be what they think and not what we think they think.

I agree with you 100%

To date I have never meet a Native American or really anyone who isn’t white that is offended by it. I know a few African Americans that feel hypocritical not supporting something like this because of what we go through in this country. I Tend to fall in that category. I’m not particularly offended by it myself. Like, at all. In the end though, it’s hard to fight any of these fights by yourself so solidarity is a thing I believe in. But I know that people like to co-op moments like these and push their own agendas. I dunno. It’s a hard place to be in.

Which is why I want a way to hear from Native Americans themselves. It’s hard for me to not no a single one and think I know how they feel. That’s me personally and really the only argument I can make against the change.

I still wonder if there is middle ground most people can agree with. I know you can never satisfy everyone, especially those resistant to change just because “you have to be” or those pushing it because “times have changed”. But I think the middle ground is where we should be playing towards.

Who knows. I ain’t paid enough to fight over it tho

that's what I'm wondering too.

its interesting how so many lifelong fans have such drastically different views and opinions on the matter and what will satisfy them as fans.

me personally I think I'm different than most, I'm not anywhere near as attached to the native American imagery as I am the name, I don't really know why it's just how I feel.

I'd be ok if the removed every bit of native American imagery and changed the logo to a razorback or a fierce looking wild boar and kept the name Redskins.

I have a feeling that would not be sufficient for the people who want the name changed but I'm curious how people on this board would feel about that?

Well another argument against the change is to react to the masses clammering for any change for the sake of change.  If everyone did that, then VA would have a different govenor now (I wish we did).  Sometimes taking a few breaths and not overreacting is the correct path to follow .

Read a post from a Native American a few pages back (can't remember the poster's name), but essentially the term is a mark of pride for him and it's one of the reasons he became a fan in the first place.  This reeks of the Oneida group "co-oping" a moment. Nevermind the fact that all of their money that they are using to fund this effort comes from reservation casinos that make life even more difficult for the natives living there.

Doesn't do much for me to be honest.  I kinda hope they get on theme with the other DC teams.  Red, white, and blue with a name like Defenders or Destroyers or something.  They could come up with some sweet ass jerseys for that.  Maybe a fighter jet logo.

I like the idea of Red Hogs.

As Jeanie buss said, it's all about the players and memories that make a franchises history.  The hogs were such an integral part of our glory years, as we have all relived recently with coach bugels passing.  With the red kept in the name, we can keep the scripted R logo ( as well as the yellow helmets if anyone still wants to see them again).  I also like how it sounds similar.  I'm sure we have all shouted "let's go hogs" at some point in our life.  "Let's go warriors" is too strange for me personally.

Personally, I love the current logo and helmet, and it will be sad to see it go.  I'm not a big fan of the spear helmets.

The bottom line is if Native Americans find the name offensive, the name needs to be changed.  Pointing out how other teams have similar names or the ridiculousness of our current cancel culture isn't relevant.  I know the team will conduct their review, but I'm interested in a review conducted by a non biased third party organization that isn't based on tweets.  (I admit I don't know the true legitimacy and integrity of any past reviews of the name).  But my guess is a true review of whether native Americans find it offensive will show some do, and even if it's a small percentage, the name should be changed ASAP.

I'm on team Red Hogs.

Asking the Native Americans how they feel and offering them a platform obviously makes a ton of sense, I am all for it. But I would not think that the discussion would then go away. We already know that the Native Americans are also not all on the same page concerning the name. So if, for example, 60% of them support it and 40% are against it what's the next move then? You would have a majority but at the same time also know you would still offend a significant portion of that ethnical group.

I’ve been uncomfortable with the name for a long time now. I hope it changes and given the nature of things, i.e. money talks and BS walks, if Fedex is concerned about it harming their brand, game over. Welcome Washington Warriors, it’s been a long time coming. I’ll be glad to not be limited to referring to my team obliquely as “The Skins” or “The Washington NFL team” anymore.

When you're constantly looking for things to be offended by, it's easy to do.

And anyone with a brain knew this would happen.  When has any recent movement stayed its course and not gone off a extreme end?  The whole issue started with police brutality and somehow we’re now to whether we need multiple anthems for sporting events.  Realtors are being told to no longer say master bedroom because of the term master.  This extreme case of dissecting everything is the stuff that honestly can sway public opinions (I won’t be political here) that can change outcomes of things.

That would never fly.  It's the term Redskins that is viewed as the problem.  If anything, the logo in isolation was a tribute to two guns white calf, designed by native Americans themselves.  The only criticism of the logo I've heard is the connection to the racist term, not the logo itself.

I love our team name.  The sad part is most Native Americans are not offended by it.  It's fueled by politics.  But anyway, if we change the name I think we should just go in a different direction.  There are so many other teams named after Indians in pro sports.  Let's stand out and start over.  I like the Warriors, but with Military.  Let's have multiple jerseys with different camo colors for all the branches.

Actually, I hope they keep the logo. It would provide a link to the past without the baggage of the name.

They’ve been the Redskins forever.  If you hated their name why would you even root for them if you were too embarrassed to acknowledge it?

Exactly. If you were that offended by the name why are you a fan of the Skins in the first place? If you really wanted to stand up for what you believe in, you should’ve stopped following them.

I think this is best case scenario honestly. At this point you offer to mediate the discussion and help them find a conclusion that they can agree on. That’s the only way to look like you care and get a chance to keep the name. Just reserve yourself to the possibility that it’s not up to you.

my other question is what happens if we force a name change and they Snyder stops supporting native Americans all together? That I would assume would be a net loss for them at first. And he would look like a dick.

No turning back. Warriors, Redtails, let's move on and start a new winning tradition while also honoring the old one.

I don't know about "winning". As long as Snyder is still owner.

It’s very possible his opinion changed after he was already invested in the team. Y’all gotta stop acting like everyone is the bad guy for growing a little in their opinions if you want the mods to let us have this discussion
