The anarchists will be after the Washington  Monument next. Eventually the name Washington won’t be allowed. Where does it stop?

Completely off-topic........every time you post (over the years) I always first read your username as Tampon75.  Nothing personal or about your posts, just where my mind wanders lol.

RedTails makes so much sense, I'm surprised it isn't more often discussed as the obvious choice.

That is a horrible name imo.  Makes me feel like I'm at a chain seafood restaurant and ordering some kind of lobster appetizer.

Setting aside the obvious issue of liking it (or a name like it)  or not, I wonder if it's just too close to the current name for people to ever really move on. Maybe more of a clean break is actually better. Starting "Red--" with any new name is gonna make it hard to get into new habits and form an attachment to the new name, because the old one is right on the tip of your tongue so to speak. For media and commentators as well.

Snyder will never change the name.  He has made that very clear.

It hits the team and/or the rest of the NFL in the wallet enough it's not going to matter at all what he wants. Especially if he wants that new stadium.

Ladies and gentlemen...we may have witnessed the very last game of the Washington Redskins. This season gets canceled and before Christmas the name is changed and the new team plays at fed ex field until the new stadium is built at the rfk site. Either snyder goes with it or throws his hands in the air and sells the team, new owner changes name and moves the team..that dude from amazon???..not sure, but stuff is gonna start getting interesting.

I do know this. You fans who haven't been fans long have an excellent chance to jump ship right now..I'm branded for life..so I cant change my favorite team. What I'm hoping happens is..they change the name and the logo..no I dont want them to change the name...but I do...I mean if the definition is meant to be racial and derogatory and that's why the original owner changed it to that than it needs to be changed...when I was a small child..smaller than I am now...my dad told me about why he liked the Redskins and it made sence....your either on the cowboy or Indian side..I seen stories and read books and felt bad for the Indians so I chose to be a Redskins fan...I have never been told I'm a racist because I'm a fan of the Redskins.

My wife suggests the Washington Reds...idky..

God has it been that long since the rg3 days?

For those against the idea of change, let me pose it in a way that bypasses the need to care about other people and caters to you as a fan and NFL consumer, directly and selfishly:

Someday when we win another SB, or luck into a stud QB, or have a league-leading unit and a great record....do you want to be treated like NFL royalty again and be the talk of the league in respected fashion, relevant and central to football talk everywhere like the other currently great franchises? Or would you prefer that for the rest of the NFL's existence, and more and more every year, every single football-related accomplishment and honor is marred by the resurgence of this conversation? Forever. Tainting the conversation about this team no matter how good we get, because being in the spotlight for anything becomes inherently controversial.

Sounds miserable to me. Think of it, if you have to, as taking control of our own destiny and re-writing the narrative instead of letting the rest of the world do it forever more. And then getting on with our lives as regular sports fans.

I hope these same people who are so deeply and selectively offended by our sports teams' name will, after it's changed, focus their efforts on the state of Oklahoma. You know, a state with millions of residents, that literally translates to "Red Man".

Probably not though.

Also, strange that there's been not a peep about the blatantly racist Indians logo. I mean, look at that thing.

Those on the woke bandwagon tend to miss a few things.

The Indians have retired that logo.  Actually, they retired it after the 2018 season.  Seems to me you missed a few things lol

That's dead on. I'm sick of hearing about it, and if there were a way to reverse the PR on it, Snyder missed that chance a long time ago. Let's go back to being laughed at for our ridiculous, incompetent owner rather than being a symbol of hatred.

And for people who just can't get their heads wrapped around the idea of change, it's not a big deal. It'll be weird for a year or two and then you'll forget all about it.

I don't see Dan going public about this for a long time. He'll wait it out, and eventually he'll either fall on the sword or pick it up and use it. He's had too many recent quotes where he's said things like "is the true definition of a Redskin" for me to think he won't ride this out.

I was only teasing, but yea, if you want a change mods can probably do it.

No problem. You forced me to look inwards and that is truly appreciated.

Sometimes it’s beneficial to see yourself from a different perspective. It can help bridge the gap between the person that we truly are and the person that we wish to become.

And yes, I definitely intend to change my username. It no longer serves me.

Fighting Irish as well?  Seminoles?  Blackhawks?  You really think so?  Chiefs just won the SB and there was literally zero talk ever about the team name.  Just because you feel bad about the Redskins inevitably having to change their name doesn’t mean other team names are nearly as offensive.  Maybe Snyder will opt for a team name that has nothing to do with Native American’s.  Either way, just change the damn name already.

Patriots?  Does it have white supremesist roots?

Yeah not changing it could hit your pocketbook...for now, but changing it could hit your pocketbook for much longer.  Dont change it, take the hit let things die down and let the free market decide.

Tuskegee Airmen is one of my favorite movies and I've watched documentary films about them too.  (Basically, they weren't as perfect as the movie made them out to be, but you sure wanted them to escort you on a bombing mission.)  But you know this is exchanging one hassle for another (cultural appropriation, sucking-up-to, etc.)  It "wouldn't be prudent".  OTOH..., The Washington Indians.  Your move, Cleveland.

There should not be any team name -- and if any NFL by-laws require one, he should sue the NFL for failing to protect his share of the business.  It should just be "Washington".  It's more dignified than any team name.  After all, I mean, "Washington".

Look I can't decide on what's wrong or right. From a young age I always liked native American stories and images. That's always what had drawn me at a young age to the Redskins. Even before I knew what American Football was as a European. I have been wearing a Redskins hat since age of 5. Always with pride. Years later I fell in love with football and discovered "I have been walking around with this teams hat for years. That must be my team!".

Then there was a young player on the team named Sean Taylor. That just caught my eye. Instant fan favourite.

Year's and years later I visiteds ddsaWashington and DMV area. It just felt like home. The best moment where when I would walk around the less high end streets and a random dude would say to me "nice redskins man!". That gave such a nice feeling.

So I'm very proud when wearing the shirt. Supporting my team, so it would feel bad to lose that.

Ofcourse I always will be a fan but you got that connection with this shirt logo and name. Sucks to lose that.

Just change it already.

It's a dumb name of a dumb sports team. It's not that big of a deal.

They've been an embarraasment for as long as I can remember. I feel no pride when I hear the name Redskins.

Be proactive and just change the name. Get on with it. Make a statement saying that’s what we are going to do and get ahead of the game.

The debate of whether we should change or shouldn’t change is over. Doesn’t matter what our individual perspectives are now. The world is changing. We simply need to change with it.

It’s time for a new era.

Just as disturbing as actually losing the team name, is thinking how cheesy the new name will inevitably be.

THIS is what's always been my concern. I never wanted to lose the name, not only because it all I ever knew, and all the memories in DC as a kid. My main concern has always been what the new name would be. I'm a psycho fan like most here, I've physically fought people over this team. Ive lost sleep countless nights, Ive been on this sight for thousands of hours at minimum. I hate this team so much, but at the end of the day, I LOVE this team more than most things in life.

BUT, if we change to some goofy ass name like Washington "Beavers" or "Centipedes", I may have to finally tap out. And for the love of GOD, please dont switch to the "Warriors". I dont want to share the same name of another professional sports team. If every time I watch ESPN and hear "Warriors" I have to wonder if they're talking about Golden St. or DC, that's going to get old VERY quick.

Too many cool unused names in the world, we dont have to use another establish professional sports team name. **** no to the "Warriors".........

As a huge fan of the Tuskegee Airmen, "Red Tails" is one of the many names I would love to switch to.

However, if we go with any name that has "Red" in it, I'm sorry, but I dont want to keep the burgundy & gold colors. If Red is in the new name, I wont our jerseys to have the color red in it.....Red, Black, & Silver......

If the name switches to a new name that does not have "Red" in it, I want to keep the B&G.
