BBC: China pneumonia outbreak: COVID-19 Global Pandemic

In reference to the Covid 19 crisis Peter Navarro said, “Nothing to worry about for the American people...This country’s done a beautiful job, under the president’s leadership, in terms of managing this situation....You can be sure that you’re in great hands with the Trump administration.”.

This is so absurd it’s beyond parody. It’s like an SNL script that was rejected because Lorne didn’t think the audience would buy it.

Yet Navarro says it reverentially, with a straight face, like he’s offering the red highlighted text from the sacred gospel of Trump so as to enlighten the ignorant masses.

Assuming there are future generations— when they study us what will they make of our apparent madness our incomprehensible capacity for self destructive delusion???

Interesting how angry people without masks get at the idea of being offered a free one.  I don't know if that's a set up but it fits with what we've seen all over the internet.  People that are anti masks are boiling over with rage when asked to put one on.  People have literally been murdered over it.

These morons are determined to die on this particular hill... and if it was just them doing the actual dying, I'd be content to let them.

Neutering the CDC and writing op-Ed’s against your own infectious disease expert.

I have nothing but bad thoughts for the losers who elected this man and for those who keep supporting this evil party.

@Mr. Sinister the virus is raging down here. My employee got sick yesterday and had to leave the warehouse and not finish his day. Body aches, exhaustion, fever, couldn’t get through 2 hours in the hot af warehouse. I had to come in to make sure our shipments went out. I wore a mask, gloves, and goggles, LysolEd the hell out of it and wipe down everything after letting it sit still for 15 min. Worked a few hours inside the HQ with the bay and doors open. Now I’m not feeling so great today, ugh. Hope it’s mental and not the virus. Fingers crossed. Smh.

I hope you're not ill. Serious question, would your warehouse benefit from a daily sanitizing solution?

The Vox article from that internist was fairly irresponsible. We know the faults of PCR-based testing in false positives/negatives, and the fact that leftover viral code triggers results. It tests for code, not full particles. This was linked earlier but needs to be called out:

Reinfection is absolutely a possibility. It doesn't mean it's the rule. It is likely the exception. Biology is full of exceptions. But those are not usually what drive epidemiological patterns like herd immunity. These are driven by what's common or likely.

Degrees and pedigree are one thing, but being an internist can be a long way from being an immunologist, epidemiologist or a researcher. This is a frequent problem, people assume physicians are scientists. They are very very distinct. Same way that I am not a cardiac surgeon.

I think this is a good point that is becoming an issue with reporting right now. All due respect but if you're a pediatrician, you do great work for society but this isn't your dojo. A doctor is not a doctor for a reason. Infectious experts, immunologists, virologists, epidemiologists, this is their time.

@No Excuses Thank you for sharing this really appreciate it. Very interesting. From what I’m understanding, and I am no scientist so please correct me if I’ve err’ed, I think my comment above is supported by this document. Although research in other coronavirus’ suggests it may be so, we still Do not know with any degree of certainty that will be the case with this particular Virus. TBD.

A lot of recent publications have shown that people build up immunity to the novel coronavirus in the short term at least. We see this in the global data as well because reinfection at large enough numbers is not being observed anywhere in the world at the moment.

Ultimately, unless evidendence to the contrary becomes available, there is no data out there that shows humans aren’t building immunity to the virus. The fact that most people recover and that you can detect antibodies against the virus in their plasma tells us that immunity is happening. We are making monoclonal antibody therapies based on the antibodies that are being identified in recovered patients. We are also seeing cellular immunity with virus specific T cells which suggests the immune response is quite robust: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1074761320301813

How long immunity lasts before reinfection is possible again will unfortunately not become known until we start seeing actual reinfection cases either in the next few months or possibly next year and beyond.

I guess we're screwed then...

CDC says U.S. could get coronavirus under control in one to two months if everyone wears a mask

The United States could get the coronavirus pandemic under control in one to two months if every American wore a mask, a top Centers for Disease Control and Prevention official said Tuesday.

“The time is now,” Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the CDC, said during an interview with the Journal of the American Medical Association’s Dr. Howard Bauchner. “I think if we could get everybody to wear a mask right now I think in four, six, eight weeks we could bring this epidemic under control.”

  • You almost have to wonder if the point of all of this is actually to kill us all. I mean if we cant trust the CDC or WHO in the middle of a fake, highly infectious pandemic while our healthcare is taken from us....what else could the plan be?

Moderna Therapuetics vaccine had promising Phase I results, big news. Mild side effects were reported i.e. chills, fatigue, fever that lasted up to 24 hours. Severe effects were reported in the experimental higher dosage given to a handful of volunteers. As such that higher dosage is no longer being pursued in future trials.

No conspiracies, no microchips. The trials are going as they should - full transparency in a medical journal, and the elimination of options where the risk outweighs the reward.

My friend told me this earlier this morning.  Quite frankly, there've been so many rumors about things going well in trials that haven't materialized (a lot of which have been documented in this thread) so I'm remaining skeptical until something is being released to the public and is legit.

.

Some of you disgust me with your incessant whining over this nothing burger.

Dear Leader Trump has already revealed to us that the true unseen enemy is TESTING!

We must stop all covid 19 testing immediately. Then it will all just fade away into nothingness like a “half forgotten dream”.

Any who resist this initiative will be dealt with as traitors. No mercy will be shown to them.

Then we can all sit back and watch as America is reborn in greatness again.

"They're seeing record numbers of cases, most interestingly, among young individuals," Fauci said.

The infectious disease specialist said during the webinar, that many young people might feel that they would "rather be there sipping a margarita in a crowd," but to get the virus under control means "you don't let yourself get infected, and you don't spread to anybody else," according to The Guardian.

Jus saw Walmart requiring masks at all US locations.

Not suprised the private sector finally had their fill of this and took matters into their own hands.

Trump vs Walmart should be interesting.

I haven't been listening to sports talk at all recently, but was looking at the latest posts in the sports talk thread about EB, and pulled up a thread on his twitter page where he indeed is minimizing the virus, comparing it to the flu, etc.

So as we've discussed earlier here, the initial death rate in mid-March was cited as likely to be around 1 percent, or 10 times worse than the flu, from Fauci. I guess CDC came out within the past couple months with a .26 percent figure (2.6 times worse than the flu). With the notion that perhaps 10 times the amount of people that test positive have the virus, I might even buy the lower number.

But also in mid-March, Fauci and Co came out in said with social distancing and other measures taken, the range of deaths in the US, will be between 100-240K.  I don't know if they ever came out with a "this'll happen by x date."

Right now, if you believe the numbers, we are at around 140K covid deaths in the US. So the midpoint of the CDC estimate (170K deaths) is looking like a best-case scenario.  I'm optimistic (likely naively) that perhaps we can keep it around that.

I guess where I'm going with this........how do people still say that this amount of deaths is "no big deal?" Do they not use their words correctly? Do they not believe the numbers (there's been a lot of goalpost moving as earlier positive estimates have been obliterated)? Do they think that it is/was mainly a problem of not protecting nursing homes better (the NY example is often cited, but how many of the 32K dead in NY would've been spared? Did the "not protecting nursing homes" happen nationwide? I know a lot of deaths nationwide have occurred among the elderly and at nursing homes, but how much of that happens with the flu?)

I mean, the whole thing leaves me alternately perplexed and infuriated. What am I missing?

It's just difficult for you to conceptualize and accept the fact that there are a large number of stupid and/or delusional people in this country.

If these morons weren't capable of spreading it to less idiotic people and it only killed them, I'd probably vote for COVID-19 in November if it was on the ballot. Sounds harsh, but I'm sick of this goddamn bull****.
