I like it! Sign Harris, dump Norman. Outside of SS skins dont have a lot of money invested in CBs.. Dunbar is on a cheap contract and if he can stay healthy Dunbar and Harris is a legit CB duo (top 5 in the league)

harris is a FS, but otherwise, I support the idea.

Also, it looks like Minnesota has no cap room. Can they even afford to resign him? Getting Harris off of them because they are paying Cousins so much would at least give us one positive out of that whole Bruce Allen bungle.

Think u go Conklin here

I have to imagine Indy re-signs him, but I‘m intrigued by the idea of Joe Haeg at tackle.

Adrian Phillips is an under the radar safety I think we should look at, but again... I’m guessing he returns to the Chargers.

Both young guys we don’t have to break the bank for - giving us a bit more wiggle room to re-sign guys and address other positions.

Yep he’s on my wish list. We did bring a Chargers DB coach onboard so that may bring some influence to a degree....

This is a deep class at FS and CB. We would be best served prioritizing both positions in free agency. Young + Harris + Byron Jones would be a hell of an off-season on defense.

I'm hoping to land:

Jones or Bradberry for $10-12 APY

Harris for $8-10m APY

Hooper for $8-10m APY

Cut Reed and Norman and you essentially wipe out the incoming cap hits of Jones/Bradberry and Hooper. And you still have $44 million to re-sign Scherff and sign a FS.

Remember, Trent is currently owed $14 million in 2020. So even if he restructures/extends, the cap hit likely doesn't change much (though I would try to front load it and bump the 2020 hit up to $17-18m since I have the space).

in fact.... Harris has skill set to play both safety and corner and skins could play him at corner with the added flexibility to play safety if needed. Whichever position is the bigger hole after the draft/ FA. makes him that much more valuable.

Signing one of the best FS in the league and playing him at CB when we still have no FS is a pretty classic redskin move.

This isn't coming from sources with the Redskins, but staff at other teams believe one of the first orders of business for new head coach Ron Rivera will be to sign guard Brandon Scherff to an extension. After dealing with an inconsistent offensive line in his final season in Carolina, many believe Rivera will push Washington to getting Scherff done and back in the fold.

Just makes so much sense to re-sign Scherff...

1.  He’s a very good player (sure, his contract might not quite match his production, but that’s FA for ya).

2.  Offers continuity for the right side of the OL.

3.  Rivera is going to want to run the ball and Scherff is a very good piece to help with this.

4.  You want to give your young qb - especially a guy like Haskins - protection to get through his reads.

5.  With a new OC/system, the last thing you need is flux or poor play on the OL.

6.  We have ample cap space to re-sign key guys and still address questionable areas.
7.  Always good to reward your players when possible/applicable.

Everyone mentions resigning Scherff and getting Trent back but no one mentions Erick Flowers.  He's an important piece that also needs to be resigned.

I'm all for signing Scherff as long as the medical reports show no red flags so I'm going to trust that Ron and his staff have determined that it's a non factor.  This isn't the year to be stingy with cap space, we have plenty of cap space and we can't continue to let good players go especially when he's fairly young and the only pro bowl caliber player we have on the O line.

Surprised this thread isn’t more hype. FA is right around the corner and I think/hope  we will be more active than we have been under The Schmuck..

Give me

1. Harris-S Minn

2. Hooper- TE Atl

3. Logan Ryan or another Just below top tier CB

4. run stopping LB

FS,CB,TE,LB is definitely the way to go.

Come on Dan let’s have a throwback free agency spending spree.

I don’t think Hooper is a finished product by any means. He’s shown progression though his career and consistency. He’s missed 5 games in 4 years.. Hasn’t always been a TE, He played DE and LB in high school at De Lasalle, went to Stanford because it was the only school that would let him play TE. So he still has lots to learn at only 25 yrs old. Less injury history than Henry.

He was graded above Average in both run blocking and pass blocking per pff in 2018. Also had the highest catch rate of any TE in 2018.  He may not be an electric talent like Kelce/Ertz but I think he’s money well spent.  He’s Super Smart, Stanford grad, solid investment.

And most important he has performed:

In 59 games

214 catches 2241 yards 16 TD’s and 77%catch rate 10.5 yd/catch 8.1yd/target

4years in the league. Sign me up.

How many ESers remember Andre Roberts?  He is going to the Pro Bowl representing the Buffalo Bills this year.

He played for the Skins in 2014 and 2015.   He is mainly a kick returner and punt returner now.

Hope the new coaching staff knows how to assess talent.  There are too many ex-Redskins being successful on other teams.

We need to make our special teams unit much better to the point where they make a difference in games.  We should try out

several kick return specialists.  Every time I see Brian Mitchell on Comcast tv, he reminds me how much our special teams have

fallen off a cliff over the years.

Hes been with buffalo a few years now..I remember last year seeing him thinking wow hes still returning punts..I figured we would have hung on to him for at least special teams needs...yeah it was hard seeing the Bill's in the wild card round with trent Murphy, tye nsekhe(how ever it's spelled)and Andre roberts...

If we'd kept him through his contract, Andre Roberts would have just been an expensive punt returner.  He has been a big-time journey man since leaving the 'Skins. We really lost nothing with Trent Murphy, he is just a JAG in a better coached defense. Ty is 34 years old, played with a quality QB and I think moved on before Trent Williams became an issue anyway. The real story here is how bad our coaching was.
