I know it's voluntary and he doesn't have to be there...Jesus Christ on a jet ski.  My initial comment was why didn't he show up when he realized that almost 90% of the team was there. I was raised and learned to lead by example. I get he doesn't have to be there, just would have liked to see him show up and be part of the team Organized TEAM Activities thing.

Great video!! Thanks for at least trying to change the topic of this thread back to Chase's performance. I love the way he brought up Curl also. What a great story. Dude is drafted in the 7th rd and may be our best DB. And he will only get better. Adding Jackson behind this line with Chase killing it will be enough to give DCs nightmares.

I am so ready for real football. It's so bad I have been watching Madden 21 game simulations on Youtube!! 🙂  Ok, maybe that was too much information.

Good post. I don't understand the compulsion to over-defend someone in this situation. I get that everyone loves Chase Young. He played great last year. However, it's also OK to think he SHOULD HAVE attended the VOLUNTARY activities of his team. I haven't seen anyone say he should be cut, fined, punished, etc. for missing them. We are all adult enough to understand his attendance was his choice. What some fans believe is that he SHOULD be there and it's not a great sign of his commitment or leadership that he wasn't. That's it.

And to the guy who said "this is just a game" you don't get to have it both ways. If there's a message board specifically for fans of the team and there are threads that cover the smallest amounts of minutiae about this team...then it's pretty fair that one of the topics being discussed is the team's best player being one of a just a few players who didn't show up for something. Especially with the backdrop of "culture change" that has been tossed around so frequently over the past 12 months.

The frustrating part is that those getting up tight don't care about this issue for other teams.  When fans say "I wish we had a player like Player X", no one cares or knows about Player X's OTA attendance record. When we get shredded by Player X during the season, no one feels better that Player X skipped OTA's and maybe isn't a "good leader".

Yeah, that might be too far. :ols:

I cant remember the last time I was this hungry for some Washington Team football. The RG3 surprise season was great and I was excited going into the next, but I can understand now why that was silly. Had to be the return of Gibbs.

Ron has big Joe Gibbs energy around this team right now and we are packed with actual blue chip talent. Hell, our Dline is so deep some fans want to trade away players. Just not use to having nice things.

And yeah, this conversation is annoying. I wish I could close ES for a few months like the last couple years, but im too excited.

I hear your point but I don't think that's relevant.

Fans are allowed to want their stars to be perfect. I can both acknowledge that these are humans who have lives and other priorities while also wanting them to be a robot and care about nothing more than football.

Maybe I speak for myself.... but I God honestly dont look forward to seeing people ****ing whine about it on every page of this cool thread for the next month or however long until football. That and I KNOW the minute he is injured or comes up gimpy after a hit, the same people complaining are really going to believe him being at OTAs would have been the difference.

Or the OTA thread.

Or the free agency thread

or the hineken thread

or the draft thread

You get the point?

Fans certainly have the right to complain about this, it's just awfully cliche and feels like a really surface-level conversation to have when Football is such an interesting and intricate sport.

Sure...but I would say on a message board with so many threads/posts you are free to avoid the ones you don't like. The fact is, this team for the past 30ish years has been bad. So, if posters have a negative lean on anything, it's completely fair and...quite honestly...much more likely to occur. It might be annoying to someone who wants to blindly follow, but it's been proven to be more accurate.

There have been so many times when posters on here have been told that things have changed or we should recognize that we're getting there. Until they change, they haven't changed. Countless players and coaches couldn't miss and many of them missed.

Then read some of the other threads...a thread about Chase Young is a perfectly reasonable place for people to discuss why Chase Young wasn't at OTAs. Maybe you can start a "Post Here Only If You Think The Skins Are Going All The Way" thread where there's only positivity.

Not sure I follow what's happening here. I replied to you saying you 'don't understand' why people are defending the behavior in question with a reason why people are defending it. Now you are instructing me to read different threads just because I explained it to you? Do you not want us to comment (ad nauseam) to the (ad nauseam) comments about him not being at OTAs?

I never said I want only positivity. I just don't see this particular (ad nauseam) complaint as more than noise. Was that not clear?

Yeah, you're trying to make this a homerism thing when it isn't.  Negativity is fine, there's plenty of it.  There's a guy running around saying Terry McClaurin is overrated and he's far from sold on our 2021 first round pick.  Blasphemy I know, but you know what else he does, he sources, he cites, he elevates discussion.  He's a high IQ poster, of which we have a lot of (check the year long Draft threads each and every year for proof of that).  There is a nuanced, analytical take to be had for Chase Young skipping OTAs as a negative, but all I have seen is knee-jerk, emotional reactions, usually followed up with a personal anecdote that has very little to do with professional football.

From everything I’ve read over the last month, I’m almost positive the WFT had the highest attendance during OTAs of any team.

That’s the narrative I’m choosing to put my focus.

Im also choosing to put my focus on no major injuries thus far. Not every team can say that either.

So many things to feel good about. Don’t miss out. Don’t let perfection be the enemy of great!

You've been a member here for a long time. This topic comes up EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Be honest, how many genuine posts have there been from people complaining that a player is hurt/gimpy/underachieving because they skipped team activities? I can't remember very many..

And please read this: OTA attendance is not a hill to die on. Don't paint me into a corner.. In fact, I had pretty much moved on from it until I was shocked into responding bc certain posters think it's funny to place my Lord and Savior on a hoverboard and jetski. I have pretty thick skin and certainly can hang in some pretty tough environments. But I'm not sure why it's frowned upon to speak negatively about  a football player but perfectly cool to jazz up your post with  insulting a persons lifeline. How about we as adults temper the shock value stuff??

Lots to respond to here, but I apologize if you were offended by my mocking the hoverboard comment with the jetski response. But I'm not  to sure why its offensive.....nothing derogatory was actually said in my opinion.  But again please accept my apologiesl

Shame on Chase Young!

So while the past several weeks everyone else has been working their tails off at OTAs that lazy good for nothing overdrafted so and so has been spending his free time converting his hair to the posh English barrister look which is all the rage across the pond this season...

image.png.b337909aab466ea4745d04f9dc8c7b48.png

Shameful!

In my day before reporting to camp we  took a dull razor blade, dry shaved our hair to the scalp and made do until it grew back.

Well mystery solved Chase has been getting his hair done thats where he has been. Probably getting a special football helmet for the new hair also, doubt it would fit in the old one.

That certainly is some hair. Good on him, young people and their crazy hair.

edit: I'm digging the Victorian Magistrate look really

You haven’t seen it answered? Really? I think the answer is pretty simple

because it was voluntary, and he chose to work out on his own. It doesn’t get any more simple than that

now that it’s mandatory, he’s here. We should be happy about that :)
