I gotta ask why....my 13 year old self needs to know...

Well, I don’t wanna trash anyone.  The last thing the internet needs is more “I met this famous person and they didn’t drop everything and make friends with me” foolishness.

That said...Lead Singer Disease is a real thing and Ms Ford may have a terminal case.  She makes David Lee Roth seem like Keanu Reeves.  This opinion is widely held, btw.

She is still quite hot and quite talented.

Yeah...her and Samantha Fox were my teenage fantasies...

Even back then I would get the "you're a metal head why would you like Samantha Fox songs" my reply was... "she sings?!?"

I guess it depends on your definition of "star."  And in a twist of fate, I'll admit that I was probably the asshole in this story, looking back.

Several of you who have grown up in this area probably have been to the Fairfax Fair.  This would have been in the mid-late 90's, maybe 1997?  Anyway, my friends and I were in line for the Ferris Wheel and had to wait a long time.  We got to the front and were the next ones to get on when this small group of people walked up and stood in front of us.  Didn't say a word to us, no acknowledgement, etc.

Anyway, I thought we started off nice enough, politely (for high schoolers) informing them there was a line and they needed to go back to the end of it.  They ignored us.  We repeated ourselves with slightly coarser language and they looked at us and shrugged us off.  The third time was basically "go to the back of the line ****heads" and they turned and just kind of sneered, and turned back away.

Well, I reacted as many high school athletes with a little too much testosterone in them would react, I jacked one of them up and sent him stumbling a good 10-15 feet.  I turned to square up to the next guy and my friends stepped up while our girlfriends cleared out.  A bunch of people jumped in before anything else could happen and a woman starts yelling "Stop...stop...we're the Lemonheads."

Yeah, it was one of the Fairfax Fair bands that was playing.  The Lemonheads did get a bit of airtime in the mid-90's with an awful Simon and Garfunkel cover as well as 1-2 of their own songs, though I'd hesitate to call them stars.  They didn't have any security (which might have been a tipoff), I guess just a Fairfax Fair volunteer who was escorting them around.  I'm not sure who the woman was, I assumed she was in the band based on her use of "we're" but google images shows the band was all men.  Maybe a girlfriends, who knows.

Anyway, I shouldn't have nailed the guy but I still maintain they were assholes :)

I met Flava Flav of Public Enemy back in 1992.  I wasn't living in Charlotte at the time and we had gone down there for the Diet Pepsi Tournament of Champions basketball tournament.  The tournament was on a Friday and Saturday night and Public Enemy was on tour and playing the following Sunday down the road in Winston Salem.

I'm assuming they flew into Charlotte since it's the bigger city and ended up staying at the same hotel we stayed at.  I was still in high school, 17 years old and Saturday night when we got back to the hotel after the game, I stepped out to go to the hotel store, get some snacks, magazines, etc.  When I got back on the elevator, there were two enormous men, standing shoulder to shoulder and someone was on their cell phone behind them.

The other guy in the elevator looked at me and whispered, "Is that Flava Flav?".  Then says, "Flava Flav?".  Next thing I know, Flava pushes his body guards aside and starts talking to us.  He appeared to be coked up out of his mind :rofl89:  He was really cool though.  He told us that he was having a party in his penthouse suite and invited us, shaking our hands, etc.

I have to say that I didn't go to the party.  When they invent time travel, I'm going back in time and telling my 17 yo self to go to that ****ing party.

Last month when I saw Cannibal Corpse at a local club, the current guitarist for Slayer (Not Kerry King, the other guy who took over when Hanneman passed away) was in the crowd taking in the show.  Got to say hello and shake his hand.

Gary Holt.  Dude is a beast.

I met Eminem a couple of times and he was a total jerk.  He told me that if I wrote him he'd write back, but he never did.  I know he got my last two letters, I wrote the addresses on them perfect. Then when I waited outside his concert in the blistering cold for four hours, he didn't even want to talk to me. My six year old brother Matthew was with me and asked for an autograph-- he just said no. I'm not mad, I just think it's messed up he doesn't answer fans.

Speaking of Eminem.  I have noticed how a lot of twitterverse and younger folks refer to their fan of someone/something as to "stan" for said person/thing. I assume that comes from Eminem's Stan song?  Kind of weird it became a trend this many years after the song, of course it could have been around a lot longer than I realized and I am just noticing it the last year or so?

Marilyn Manson threw a bottle of water at me once, does that count? (It was 2001 and I was crowd surfing at a concert).

As far as actually meeting someone and hanging out with them I got to hang out with Fat Mike and El Jefe from NOFX after a concert for a while many years ago. It was totally random. The show had just ended and I had gone to the bar to get one last beer but they told me they'd stopped selling at that point. So being not 100% sober I saw the guys from NOFX milling around drinking beers on the stage and walked up near it and yelled "Hey Mike...they stopped selling beer over there...you have any extras?" and he was like "Sure man" and let me up on stage and I hung out there for a while afterwards drinking some beers and shooting the **** with him and El Jefe (guitarist). Both really awesome guys, just totally normal down to earth dudes who happen to be in a legendary punk rock band.

I heard from a good friend of hers' husband (they helped her move away from Chris) that she's really sweet & Chris was a total ass.

I will say she's a FAR better guitarist than singer...and that ain't saying much. (I saw her open for Yngwie in Daytona about 30 years ago.)

I've met quite a few musicians, worked for a security company for awhile...it was voluntary, but it was free shows & meeting people...I'm making a list. 😁

Oh hey that reminded of when I saw Deicide in San Francisco circa 2001ish and I managed to make my way up to the front before they started their set.  When they all walked out on stage Glen Benton had a bottle of jack daniels and was pacing the stage.  For a reason I'll never know, he stopped in front of me and poured a good amount down my throat.  Now keep in mind I am not a JD fan, I prefer Jim Beam if pressed, but I must have been pretty loaded already at that point because I honestly don't even remember tasting the JD at all, it just went down.  No way was I going to mess that up in front of Glen Benton and a club full of death metal fans. LOL.

Ha...back in the mid 90s when I was in college and on a trip to Miami with some friends we saw him and his band at a Denny's.  I had no clue who they were since it was before their "Sweet Dreams" cover hit MTV, but I'm like who are these freaks throwing pie at each other in the parking lot and my buddy recognized them and said oh that's Marilyn Manson.

When a coked up Flava Flav asks if you want to go to a party, you say 'yes'!
