bubba9497
proclaimed on ATH That the Redskins will go from the dead skins to the Head Skins, and a definite playoff team next year. Spurrier will make the tweaks needed, and he has a QB to do it. Jay Marrotti, said the same old Dan Snyder won't let it happen argument.
NoCalMike
I saw this today, and quite frankly, they BOTH made valid points. They both basically echoed all of our sentiments, that Dan Snyder is the real root of our troubles, AND that Spurrier will tweak the team and that we DO HAVE A QB NOW. Though he did say that BEFORE the Dallas game. Clearly one game shouldn't determine how far we've come or how much we've regressed, but I would think that game would make a lot of people reconsider hopes for the near future for this team. bubba9497
You're right, one game does not a season make, and lets not forget the Cowboys were torched the week before by the Eagles 36-10, getting a ass whooping does happen from time to time when you are not a great team. NoCalMike
The problem though is, when you are a .500 team, you are at a constant crossroads. We have the players right now to be at least a 9-7 team, however it is the small things that haven't changed for the better that keep us a meticore team. The question remains, is Spurrier the right guy to come in here and right the wrongs?
Canadian Hog
I agree that we are getting closer to where we wanna go, and am encouraged by the fact that we have played in some very close games. However, at some point or another, you have to start asking yourself what performances like the ones we had both times vs. Dallas and vs. Buffalo mean in the grand scheme of things. I mean, to show up unprepared once is to be expected by all teams in this league during a season. That fact that we haven't shown the consistent improvement throughout the season casts some serious doubts in my mind, and drains the confidence that I have in our current coaching staff. With the amount of meltdowns that we have witnessed this season, its hard for me to visualize this team being a playoff team one year from now. NoCalMike
Our team has competed in close games for the last three years, but we keep losing them. In the Marty Year and last year we could blame it on not having a QB that could bring us back in games. Well the early part of this season showed that, that problem has been fixed, however we still lose TOO MANY close games. A bunch of our losses can be attributed to not being able to get into FG range in the 4th quarter to put that extra 3 points on the scoreboard, I mean it is as simple as that. Even with ALL OF OUR HOLES & PROBLEMS on this team, the fact remains that in the 4th quarter of a handful of our games, that extra 3 points would have brought us Wins instead of losses. Even Madder
I think there are signs pointed in opposite directions for the Skins. The positives are an offense that will return largely intact next year with a pretty good young QB and a good OL (with all their painful learning curve hopefully over) and decent wideouts. Add a TE and fix the RB situation, and they should do some damage. On defense, fixing the DL is worth a couple wins. But on the negative side, you've got a team with no heart. No desire. No motivation. Lots of fourth quarter collapses -- the time when the team that wants it more wins. And you've got a coaching staff that seems incapable of kicking them in the ass. Spurrier has a rule against cursing and a punishment for it, but he has no punishment for playing like ****. All season long he's complained about players not doing their jobs, being out of position, etc., but he hasn't taken steps to address it. Who's been benched? Cut? Yelled at on national TV? Nobody. Bad sign. Further, you've got a front office without a clue. Who builds a team and forgets the OL one year and the DL the next? Who forgets important roleplayers like TE and special teams? You can't have everything, but you shouldn't miss the really big stuff either. So I think the players are improving. Ramsey is learning. The OL is making fewer mistakes. The defense is really pretty good if they could generate some pass rush. But that's all undercut by poor leadership. Which way will the Skins go? Up or down? I don't know. One moment I'm optimistic because this is a young talented team, the next I'm despondent because the coaching staff and FO have been such a disappointment.
