STATEMENT FROM THE WASHINGTON REDSKINS

The Washington Redskins have requested that the NFL’s Management Council convene a joint committee with the NFLPA to review the medical records and the medical care given to Trent Williams. We have requested this review under the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement that provides for an independent third party review of any NFL player’s medical care. The Redskins continue to prioritize the health and well-being of our players and staff. Due to healthcare and privacy regulations, we are unable to comment further at this time. We look forward to the joint committee’s results.

As others said, this is completely tone deaf.  Find a way to blame the best player you've had over the past decade.

Bruce just can't help but find a better shovel to dig himself even deeper.

This is what I posted in another thread...

His problem may be legit but I have a hard time believing it especially if previous reports are correct.  From what we've heard, he has an issue with the medical team and Bruce knows about it.  Bruce apparently offered to fire the whole crew (according to the media) but Trent didn't want to name names because he didn't want to cost them their jobs?  So, if correct, he's basically saying, I'm done with this medical staff because I'm too concerned with my health but I'm fine with them treating my teammates?  That is, I don't want to cause an inferior medical staff their jobs but feel free to let them screw up the careers of my teammates?  Either he has a total disregard for his teammates well being or this isn't the main issue (imo) or maybe he is just getting bad advice.  The whole thing makes me laugh.  Is this the next Dumb and Dumber film?

"Your medical staff is terrible, I refuse to play on the same team as them because they almost let me die."

"I don't wanna name names about who was letting me die. I don't want to prevent this person from harming anyone else."

Either Trent has blatant disregard for his teammates' health and is willing to let them risk their lives by being treated by an incompetent medial staff, oorrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... there's something else to it.

Bring on the NFL and NFLPA review. What's the worst that could happen? That the team didn't actually harm its own players through criminal malpractice?

Bruce could never win us over in an argument, however I sense Trent isn't going to look good at the end of all this.

Probably won't reflect well on anyone.

These are football players, not playwrights. What they say isn't going to always flow perfectly. He has no trust in the medical staff. I wouldn't either after this situation. Team staff do what they do at the behest of the team. You guys need to listen to that very insightful podcast that Keim and the guy from the Richmond Times Dispatch put up several months ago. It's quite telling about the disconnects between training, medical, and conditioning staffs for this team. There is a real disconnect, and until that is resolved - and it has not been as of yet - there will be more problems. Cases in point -- McCoy's ridiculous surgery that he was told to have (which he didn't need, and which then led to serious complications and additional procedures); Guice..........I'm not sure the team wants the NFL to start looking beneath the surface on this. The statement put out by the team was a "cover my ass" statement by the team president, who has no doubt already tried to filter this to the owner. Snyder's wife is a cancer survivor. He's not going to take this lightly. And for all of the owner's faults and shortcomings, he does genuinely care for the players. As some have noted, he is often too close to some players. But the fact that his private jet flew Trent to Chicago for that surgery says that he understands what is going on, and my guess is that the team president's ass is grass..........and not the kind of grass that Trent tends to like.

Maybe I'm in a minority here, but I feel that this is the correct thing to do.

A player has made a complaint about his treatment by the medical staff, and the team has responded by requesting that it is investigated by an independent third party.  Now it could be said that they should have done this earlier, if indeed Trent did make the complaint when he started his hold-out, but I actually applaud the team for this course of action, albeit a little late.

Please note that I still think that Bruce is an incompetent tosser and he should have been fired years ago, and I don't even know if he had any input into this decision, but this seems like the proper, professional, transparent way to do it.

See "Any given sunday".

There's a good showing of how medical staff operates within pro sports:

"Tell him the minimum: Shark can play, Cap no!"

Probability exist that medical staff reported to Bruce who downplayed it after a 2.6s research on google. And medical staff played as the boss wanted because our culture is damn good.

There’s enough “Fail” to go around on this one I believe. At 13m a year Trent has no reason not to be a better steward of his health imo, 6 years is plenty of time to run by a Dermatologist during the off-season.

Weird that none of his teammates except D.Hall went to visit him either. Something doesn’t seem right in all this but if there’s a silver lining maybe It does set the wheels in motion to get Brucie outta here.

Yeah, the "nobody on the team came to visit me except Hall" line adds a strange twist to an already strange situation.

Of course, this wouldn't be a situation at all if they had just traded him in the offseason and been done with it.

Again, the medical staff (which you say includes Bruce Allen) has supposedly treated him with criminal negligence. Being the team leader that he is, Trent decided to take one for the team by demanding a trade to someone who will give him guaranteed money while letting his teammates continue to be treated by negligent staff.

There are two things in there that don't fit.

Sorry everyone, but this is exactly what should be happening. Trent himself should have went through a similar process instead of national television to air his private medical concerns

I think this isnt gonna turn out how Trent wants.  He seems to be reacting emotionally and that usually doesnt end well.

To me, the team taking this action seems like they're confident in the medical care they provided.

Remember when folks were ripping then over the Scot M situation and then they went to arbitration and won over firing him with cause? We already think negatively of the team, so we assume they're in the wrong.  Then when the facts come out, it's a little fuzzier.

Who thought they were going to lose?  There are a bazillion things someone can be fired for with cause.  Still doesn’t clear Bruce of being a douche of epic proportions.  Starting with hiring a guy with drinking problems to report to guys with drinking problems themselves.

Being a douche isnt the issue, it's whether the decisions that were made were technically reasonable.  Trent is painting this like the med staff completely F'ed up.  We'll find out if that's actually true.

I just said that the medical staff report to Bruce.

Now you can decide to settle on Bruce's side and thinks Trent's an asshole for doing what he did. Problem here is that Bruce already have a long history on lying and acting like one...

In his mind, they did mess up.  But considering he didn't even want anyone fired over it, it tells me this is rooted in him being scared and blossomed into being angry for how it was handled thereafter.

It's entirely possible that the Skins medical staff isn't even responsible for diagnosing this type of thing to begin with, so they may have no 'blame' here at all.

If the team's medical staff reports to Bruce and the decision about whether Trent's lump was a tumor or not was made by Bruce, that makes Bruce part of the medical staff.

Taking Bruce's side would mean that I think that Bruce's side is right. It isn't. I just don't think Trent is a saint for leaving his teammates in danger if he truly thinks that he was in danger. The side I took long ago was "just trade the dude already".

If the team's medical staff did something wrong, then it's a big deal and NFL and NFLPA will see to it that it's fixed. If the medical staff didn't do anything wrong, then that's kind of a big deal to lie about them. Those people have lives and careers, and I don't think it's acceptable to slander and ruin them in the name of "it makes Bruce look bad". I don't get why everyone is so hostile to the committee investigating and learning the truth. Hiding and ignoring the truth while hurting other people in the process to further your agenda is the ultimate "Bruce's side" someone can take.

So you'd feel better with Trent if he threw a name or two to the wolves so that Bruce can fire them. That's a tough call to make. Trent only knows his story. What if someone in the medical staff told Trent undercover go see a specialist but don't tell anyone because it wouldn't go well within the org?

That would be huge to do from his side. And I don't think he should anyway. At least not publicly.

I can't come up with a result of this that ends up good for both the player and the team. Not with Bruce leading the charge here.

It'll results in this:

- Trent is a liar, lowering his trade value, almost forcing us to cut him.

- Our medical staff sucks and players think twice before signing here (at least biggest names, and rookies will try to look elsewhere when they have to. Scherff anyone?)

- It is definately not gonna appease Trent and could get ugly real quick.

- What if this committee decide to pursue furthermoe and go check Alex Smith and Colt McCoy?

If our FO used to be one that was classy and honest, I would be OK. But you've got Prince of Darkness over there over seeing this stuff (guy that is reportedly petty), and that really sounds like OK, I'm gonna make this guy looks bad so I'm free of every charges. Bruce is sending Trent and the team under the bus so he can look clean.

Doesn't go well with me. As if sending fans under the bus wasn't enough, now he's going on with players... And one that used to be the best we had for many years.

Trent only knowing his story is a non-factor. He has said in no uncertain terms that what he believes to be malpractice by the staff very nearly cost him his life. If he didn't believe it to be absolutely true, he wouldn't be painting the entire staff as incompetent. If he truly believed that they did something so unethical and wrong, I really don't get why he would go out of his way to trash the entire staff without "naming names". Names implies that it's individual people who did something wrong, not the entire staff. And yet, he is willing to throw the entire staff to the wolves and let uninvolved people suffer the consequences.

Frankly, I don't give a damn who ends up "the winner" of the investigation. Serious accusations have been made about the safety of the players. The investigation will show whether the players truly are in danger or not. If the medical staff are putting the players in danger, fire the staff and fix it. If they are not in danger, then it does whatever it can to salvage the reputation of the medical staff that's been accused.

The medical staff has been accused of something very serious, something that affects their lives and careers outside of some stupid football team. If it's true that they did their due diligence and didn't put the players in danger, I don't understand how you can find it completely acceptable to run roughshod over the lives of the medical staff just because you want good trade compensation or to fire Bruce Allen. This goes far beyond Bruce and Trent.

Nah, we all know they suck really.

...but Trent gave a damming 18 minute interview yesterday that is either factual or not. I've read things already that question the integrity of some of it.

No taking sides, both sides need to be held accountable here.

I dont think that's necessarily weird, unless he was dying or things were touch and go. And we dont really know how dire things were being portrayed to the team, if at all.  Maybe if he were getting the surgery in DC and nobody showed up, that might be weird.
