My problem isn't the leaks as much as it's that disagreements happen in every single stinkin' front office in the NFL, ever. Gibbs and Beathard had a ton of disagreements like this. I get tired of normal things being treated as signs of a dysfunctional apocalypse simply because it's the Redskins.

Jay sounded like he's making the kid earn it, which is what he should do. Say's he'll play if he's the best one.  My guess is Keenum starts until they feel the kid is ready.  What our record is and how well Case plays will have a say in it too.  This is all unless the kid comes out and just balls from the get go, which would be great.  We'll see.

Probably the 1 QB I wanted nothing to do with, welcome Jason Campbell 2.0!!


Let's see how many years, and how many head coaches we burn through as Danny boy attempts to justify this pick?? Minimum we will waste at least 4 seasons on him, and it will probably be 5!!!

No idea whatsoever in understanding the difference between the college game, and what is going to transpire as Haskins steps into the NFL, much less time to throw, can't wait for your primary to pull away from a overmatched defender, and 300lbs+ defenders surrounding him in the pocket with not a whole lot of room to step up, unlike college!!! SMH

Prisco:

15 Redskins

Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio State

I think he's the best quarterback in this draft and it's a great pick for the Redskins. Getting a cheap quarterback to come in and push to start right away is a great move. Love this pick by the Redskins. Like Kyler Murray he's a one-year wonder, but there's a lot of potential here. Grade: A

15. Washington Redskins: QB Dwayne Haskins

The rumors were true: Washington wanted Dwayne Haskins. Just how badly, we might never know, because after the many swirling rumors, the team ultimately did not need to trade up to draft him. There’s no way the Redskins could be confident that Haskins would still be on the board at 15. So they were willing to take him, but not splurge on him. After Alex Smith’s possibly career-ending leg injury last season, Washington needed a quarterback. The question now becomes, How soon will Haskins play? Having such a small sample size from college, he’s expected to be a work-in-progress. Can he be consistently accurate and poised from the pocket?

GRADE: C+

Before the Flacco trade I thought Case Keenum would have been the perfect bridge quarterback as he’s the kind of A+ dude who will serve as a great mentor even once he’s lost his job. Combined with the fact that Jay Gruden’s offense is probably the best scheme fit out there for Dwayne Haskins and I really like this pick. I have no faith in Snyder to properly build around him though.

Analysis: After all the pre-draft hoopla that suggested the Redskins were going to pull a, well, Redskins and botch this draft, everything worked out for Washington: The Redskins didn’t have to trade up and still ended up with the second-best quarterback in the draft. Haskins is a prototypical pocket passer who diagnoses coverages in an instant. His deep-ball accuracy isn’t ideal and he isn’t very mobile, but Haskins has EVERYTHING else you want in a franchise quarterback

Washington owner Dan Snyder got the player he wanted. And he did the right thing? That’s weird to say about Snyder. It was speculated that Washington would trade up for Haskins. That didn’t have to happen. In Haskins, Washington has its franchise quarterback of the future. When you can get that in the middle of the first round you’re doing something right. Haskins may be limited as a pocket passer only, but those players can still be plenty successful in the NFL.

There are conflicting reports that team owner Dan Snyder has taken over the Skins draft war room. If that’s the case, buckle up your sippy cups because it means Washington is really being run by Snyder’s astrologist, his sommelier, whichever top player’s agent ear-holed him last and Mike Shanahan, who still calls Snyder every now and then to keep him misinformed.

 

Come to think of it, that may still be an upgrade over team president Bruce Allen’s decision-making shadow cabinet: some scribbled notes he found in Scot McCloughan’s office trash can and a 2017 University of Alabama football media guide.

 

Here’s Haskins’ scouting report, summarized in convenient bullet points and with no “look how smart and technical I can be” scouting jargon. You’re welcome.

 

  • - He’s at his best when taking the snap and quickly getting rid of the ball.

  • - He can easily be rattled by pressure, especially pressure up the middle.

  • - He’s a gifted short passer with great velocity and accuracy in the 5-15 yard range.

  • - He’s an inconsistent deep passer despite a strong arm.

  • - He can find his second or third targets, check down and move the defense with his eyes.

  • - He sometimes uncorks what can best be described as “wild pitches” to open receivers.

  • - He steps up in the pocket to buy time effectively and can sometimes find open receivers while on the move.

  • - He runs just well enough to get dragged down from behind if he tries to scramble at the NFL level.

  • - He has a reputation for character and competitiveness, meaning the worst-case scenario is that he will develop into a hard-throwing, high-effort guy who won’t get any coaches or executives fired.

  • - His methodical style will always require a clean pocket. Truly great quarterbacks are the ones who find ways to succeed without a clean pocket.

 

Haskins looks like a Snyder or Allen pick, not a Jay Gruden pick. Grudens like their quarterbacks quick and pesky, not big and pocket-y.

So the Skins get credit for selecting a much-needed starting quarterback without trading up. Like the Giants, they could have done worse.

But with better planning and organizational vision, they also could have done a lot better.

This is the dream scenario for the Washington Redskins. There were rumors that they liked Haskins enough to trade up to grab him, and in the end they stand firm at pick 15 and still land the Ohio State signal-caller. The 10th overall player on the PFF big board, he improved as the 2018 season went on.

 

- 10th-highest overall grade in the class

- No. 9 passing grade among draft-class quarterbacks

- No. 5 adjusted completion % in the class

- No. 2 passer rating from a clean pocket among class QBs

He's a good QB, but still needs proper coaching and preparation at the NFL level. That won't come from Gruden. I wish there was more clarity on the role actually played by our assistants. Cavanaugh can develop a QB, but we've brought in Rattay, I guess, to lead that charge. I really wish we had hired Ken Zampese. Anyway, I think the kid needs to sit at least one full year before being put out there. With matadors at both RT and LG, I wouldn't dare risk this kid getting steamrolled and injured just for the sake of playing time. We'll see if Snyder is impatient and wants to get him on the field too soon (for marketing and seat-filling purposes) or if he's thinking long-term development.

I haven't read this thread yet or much of the draft discussion on Haskins yet, but I had an interesting contrarian thought that I wanted to share.

 

It may be a good thing that Daniel Snyder or Daniel Snyder's son already has a relationship with Dwayne Haskins! 

 

I know. You are having flashbacks of RGIII or Clinton Portis and think that entertaining that thought is crazy, but hear me out. One of the things that is really difficult to ascertain through combines, interviews with former team mates and coaches is who a person really is. Snyder knows. The chance of Haskins being a basket case or a bad guy is reduced. The chance that he's a lazy bum is reduced. The chance that he doesn't love the game or won't put in the work is reduced.

 

They know him. They know who he is and what makes him tick. They have a feel for his personality in a way that few employers rolling the dice on a recruit can. That can be a great thing because you are not only hiring the athlete... you are hiring the man.

 

So maybe this relationship instead of being a drag on the Redskins will be to their benefit. Maybe it offers them insight that other teams just don't have into his fire, temperament, etc. At least I hope so.

I agree here...I mean if Haskins shows he still needs time in TC than case will start..but if Haskins shows even a little inkling of being ready he'll be the for sure stater..

The best thing about that pick is that the Giants picked Daniel Jones ahead of him. That sure will be a motivating factor for Dwayne.

 

Just hope he concentrates on being the best QB he can be rather than being a corporate pitchman.

He's a bonafide prodigy.  He's got it all--toughness, competitiveness, confidence, smarts, instincts, tremendous arm talent, tremendous accuracy, cat quick pocket footwork.

College stats do not translate to the NFL - breaking down each comment, each is anchored in facts.

 

fat - yes

slow - 5. something 40  - fact

lazy/body language - watch the moment he gets called by the redskins the way the female next to him recoils and puckers her lips and he rolls his eyes.  Then his low energy moving forward. 

 

Ill bet you a dime this dumpster is out of the league in 5 years.
