The 2019 season is about doing what it takes to secure the quarterback who could potentially change the trajectory of the franchise, and more importantly, brighten up South Florida’s sport landscape.

That’s why the Dolphins must lose to the Washington Redskins in a game we’ll call “Tank for Tua Bowl I.”

Brian Flores and his staff better do what it takes to secure Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, the most polished quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck, because beating the Redskins would put Miami behind the rest of the field of winless teams.

...While there is no sure thing when it comes to draft picks, after being stuck on this mediocrity merry-go-around for two decades because of lackluster quarterback play and bad decisions made by management, this isn’t the time to finally get competitive. This Sunday is not the time to be bold and daring.

There’s been too much pain and suffering for this franchise and its fan base.

One win won’t heal that. Only Tagovailoa, who led Alabama to a national championship win as a freshman, can.

He’s completing 70 percent of his passes the past three years, which includes a 76.4 competition percentage this season. That means he completes three of every four passes he throws.

He averages 10.9 yards per attempt (that’s a first down per throw) and has thrown 77 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 28 games.

He is as polished at they come.

And that’s why the Dolphins organization needs to do what it takes to ensure they remain the front runners for his services, out-tanking all the other tanking teams, which includes the Redskins and the Cincinnati Bengals, who play Miami in Tank for Tua Bowl II on Dec. 22.

Flores and the Dolphins hope to show some signs of improvement following their bye week and one of the worst starts in team history.

The Dolphins have scored the fewest points (26) and have averaged just 225 offensive yards per game, while surrendering the most points (163) and yards per game (472.0). They also have been outscored 81-0 in the second halves of games.

Miami has also had to deal with significant roster turnover after trading left tackle Laremy Tunsil, wide receiver Kenny Stills and defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick in deals that netted a bevy of draft picks in 2020 and 2021.

Before the Dolphins can cash in on their future — where Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is the prized possession — they must continue to fend off their stiff competition for the top pick.

What about Ross intervening this weekend when the Dolphins host the Redskins? It’s premature and potentially not necessary because this team, organically, should be bad enough to lose on its own, without getting that extra push.

But if the top pick is in doubt come mid-December, the Dolphins management needs to keep reminding themselves that they have gone too far, embarrassed the brand too much, to lose sight of the grand prize.

And at that point — it’s way too soon now — they must do what it takes to enhance their chances to get that pick, provided it’s within the rules.

▪ Respected sports business writer Andrew Brandt, a sports law professor and former Green Bay Packers vice president, wrote an interesting piece defending the Dolphins’ plan for SI.com. Brandt wrote: “Don’t call it tanking: In sports as in business, there are many ways to build an organization, and Miami, like many teams before them, is choosing to sacrifice now for the prospects of greater gain down the road.

“Rather than ridicule the team, we should acknowledge that prioritizing the development of young talent is integral to long-term success.... Businesses regularly sacrifice short-term success for a more stable long-term future.”

 Ya know, if Callahan is serious about getting the #1 pick, then I'm hoping to see the following;

1. Multiple triple reverses

2. Swinging Gate Pt. Deux

3. Redskins receive the kick-off and run backwards out of their own endzone giving the Fins 2 pts

The scary thing is, if the Fins are looking for the #1 spot, the Swinging Gate would actually work ! Talk about history !!

If both teams are looking to throw the game, this could be a record game; all-time lowest accumulated yards by each team and combined.

The possibilities are endless...

If both teams started doing this all game what would they do about it...?  Haha

Staff predictions from the Sun Sentinel which is published down in South Florida. "The Dolphins want {the #1 overall pick and Tua) it more"

Steve Svekis, Assistant Sports Editor (Season record: 4-0, 1-3): Dolphins 23, Redskins 13

The Dolphins have never lost to the Redskins at home and the streak has a decent shot to survive Sunday with also-winless Washington in disarray and coach Jay Gruden having been fired on Monday. Meanwhile, these are the quarterbacks the Dolphins have faced this season: Lamar Jackson, Tom Brady, Dak Prescott and Philip Rivers. The Redskins have no one within miles of that talent level.
